Tomb Raider is a ridiculously successful franchise. Lara Croft went beyond just being a female version of Indiana Jones; the Tomb Raider games created a whole new style of gameplay that went on to inspire games like the Uncharted trilogy. But what makes her such a compelling character and why are the games still so loved even after all these years? Well, let’s look back on the history and find out.
While we often see things that show off how Lara has evolved over the years, with a focus on her bust size and wardrobe, it’s great to see how the franchise itself has grown up over the years and across the various platforms. From an annual release game at the start, to its recent reboot and now the sequel, Tomb Raider intrigues fans of all kinds. It could be the combination of puzzles and gunplay, or the unique characters and environments Lara explores, but something about the franchise keeps people coming back for more.
Rise of the Tomb Raider has scored ridiculously well with critics, and I have a feeling that it will sell well on Xbox platforms, getting quite a surge next year when it’s released on PC and PS4. I know that I’m excited to play it, not only to see how the gameplay has evolved on the latest generation on consoles, but also to continue on the journey with Lara. She has become one of the most recognizable characters in gaming, even after the reboot moved away from the short shorts and tank top.
I’m still just glad that Angelina Jolie said that she’d never reprise that role again. As much as I love those movies as guilty pleasure (in the same way I love the Resident Evil films), they were pretty much just movie junk food.

I still don’t understand how she breathes in her new outfit? I also prefer the TR games that have a greater puzzle-y focus than the combat-heavy ones.

Knowing you the first part is fully understandable.
Fully agree on the second part.

Let me guess, you were one of the first to get the “patch” for TR2 where she accidentally loses her clothes?

The day kids decide they want puzzles over instant satisfaction is the day I build myself a rocket and move to Titan
