Last night, Apple held their annual September showcase – an event where they unveil all their upcoming gadgets and toys. When they first showcased the iPad Air a while back, people whispered, wondering if an iPad Pro would ever make its debut. Now, two years later, it has.
I’ve never understood the purpose of phablets – devices designed to be both a phone and tablet in the same housing. They’re big, clunky, and don’t fit into any normal person’s pocket. On the flip side, the iPad Pro makes perfect sense to me. It looks to be the perfect replacement for those who don’t want both an iPad and a Macbook, but rather one neat piece of tech combining both.
Powering the device is the new A9X processor. According to Apple, it will deliver up to 1.8 times the CPU performance, and twice the graphical capabilities of the iPad Air 2.
Somehow though, it manages to remain a mere 6.9mm thick…er… thin. It’s rather light too, weighing in at a measly 1.57 pounds (712g according to Google).
It’s all quite surprising, considering the iPad Pro sports a nice, large 12.9” Retina display, which makes for some beautiful visual real estate. It’s packed with a whopping 5.6 million pixels – the highest resolution of any existing iOS device.
To navigate all those millions of dots effectively, Apple have refined their Multi-Touch technology. They’ve also introduced the Apple Pencil – the perfect companion for those who want ultimate precision in design. Were I capable of drawing anything beyond a stickman, I think I’d be drooling all over the device myself. Take a look…
Apple also unveiled the Smart Keyboard. It does exactly what the name implies, minus the smart part. Let’s be honest, it’s just a keyboard after all! It clicks into the iPad Pro, and gets the job done.
Sorry, I just felt that this comic was rather fitting. Anyways, how much will this new iPad Pro cost you? The cheapest starts at $799… HOLY CRAP!
So, yeah, that’s the iPad Pro. It certainly is a sexy piece of tech, but at that price, it’s certainly not the most affordable. I don’t even want to know how much it will cost when it hits our shores, especially with our current exhange rate.

You know, this is really an amazing piece of tech. It truly is. But what grinds me and what I can’t understand is how people think that Apple have come up with something new!?
I just don’t understand it!?!?! I mean their tag is that they designed a new pencil… No you didn’t. You freaking made a sketch pad pencil that works on the tablet. It’s a Wacom pencil for goodness sake!!!! Not some amazing new discovery. But nooooooo. Apple fanboys will praise this as the leading, cutting edge of NEW design.
And that price!?!?!? You can get yourself a machine that’s capable of design + being far easier to use with a fully capable OS with keyboard and mouse to work easier. A tablet can’t replace that. Not at only 12inches. Designers want MORE screen real estate than that.
GAH, I give up. Apple keeps squeezing the world for cash and people keep falling for it. I give up. Buy what you want.
(I wouldn’t mind one though and it is an amazing piece of tech. I just won’t pay that price for a tablet)

I’m pretty sure only the idiots think they’re coming up with new stuff. Even the iPod wasn’t new. It was just very well polished and marketed.
That’s what Apple are though, a polishing company with a huge brand and brilliant marketing campaigns. Personally I like it when they make things shiny. Sure I pay more, but I like to spend my money on generally very well assembled hardware. My Apple products have always had a very long life (except for that iPhone 4 battery going boom) and similarly they generally have a very good resale value. I bought the iPhone 5 with Cell C which worked out to around R4700 for the phone and sold it two years later for R3800. I have a few more similar stories but the point is they’ve built solid machines.
Apple may not be at the cutting edge of design, that’s really subjective. In my opinion one of the areas of design I think they’re really good, is the assembly. I’ve been taking apart toys for years and these are some of the fun to break.
I must say I wouldn’t buy all their products. But that’s the same with anything. You don’t need all the tools, just the right tools for the job.
Also the OS is so much better than Windows. Maybe I’m biased with my love of UNIX though.
Apple along with Google, Microsoft, Sony, you name the corporation are all squeezing the world for cash. Heck look at Hollywood and the entertainment industry. You can’t hate the player for the game.
That being said, yeah I’m not going to buy one. A phone and laptop are all I need. I’d rather spend my money on hats in dota or something equally pointless.

You chose Apple out of preference for the hardware and OS Mix. You admit that the hardware is more expensive and you admit that you buy it not because it’s stronger but because it’s a better environment and, as you pointed out, well assembled.
You see you don’t try and defend the price tag of the hardware. You defend your choice and give reasons.
You are not the usual Apple fanboy who shouts “Apple is better and always will be stronger and it’s the best because… Because!”

There was an element of the MacBook user base who were deeply distressed a while back by how the MacBook Pro started to become more affordable and introduce more “entry-level” models (although with the Pro this is definitely a relative concept) because it meant that even students at the coffee shops they hung around at ended up having them.
This element will be delighted with the iPad Pro.
