When you talk about a franchise being bled to death most people instantly love jumping on the Call of Duty hype train, or the obvious yearly sports titles like FIFA or Madden but one of the titles that seems to get away with it time after time is Street Fighter.

Street Fighter started way back in 1987 when it made it’s first appearance in the arcades and it was with the release of the sequel, in 1991, that the Street Fighter uber fan was born and that Street Fighter became the basis for all future fighting games with multiple fighters and different moves.

Capcom soon realised it had a massive title on it’s hands and so it embarked on what must be one of the most amazing milkings ever seen in videogame history. It’s pretty hard to track down all the Street Fighter titles but here are the ones I have found please shout if I’ve missed one out or included one by mistake.

Fighting Street: Street Fighter
Street Fighter II
Super Street Fighter II

Street Fighter Alpha Gold – Street Fighter Zero 2

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Online Edition (trailer below)
Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition
Street Fighter X Tekken
Tekken X Street Fighter

And that’s it.. I think… for those of you who’s eyes glossed over that makes a total of 37 separate Street Fighter titles over the past 24 years which may possibly be some sort of record beaten only by annualised sports titles.

The reason for this post on this glorious Tuesday? Well today marks the release date of one of those 37 Street Fighter titles namely, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Online Edition. Or SFTTSOE as it’s more lovingly called.

The saddest part of this day is that both Nick and Geoff are most probably going to call in sick after playing SFTTSOE all night and then tomorrow I’m going to have to listen to them tell me how utterly fantastic this clone of a game is all day long and then when I mention FIFA 12 or Modern Warfare 3 listen to Nick tell me how they are just useless annualised titles and I may as well just play MW or FIFA 08.

Oh yeah, that launch trailer. Behold the brand new never before seen gameplay footage of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike: Online Edition
