A new PS Vita is on the way, just in time for all those folks who just bought one to get pretty hacked off. It’s going to be sporting a few new bits of hardware. Like an LCD screen to replace the OLED screen on the current model. Here’s a comparison of the two.
The Vita pulling a Cremora ad (It’s on top!) sports the old school OLED, while the bottom, newer Vita has LCD. Looks a bit green to me. Hiro 1998 uploaded the following photos on Twitter, showcasing the two consoles:
Personally, I think the older screen is better on the eyes. OLED just looks sharper, more colourful to me, even if it is a bit hard to see. But to me, that little difference is a make or break point in selling the console. Speaking to Nikkei, Sony’s Andrew House explained why the Vita made a screen change:
The main reason is that the LCD panel can now realize an image as high quality as that of the OLED panel.”
House also said that an LCD screen made it easier to take some junk out of the trunk of the Vita.
Spatial reasons? I can believe that. Quality though? I ain’t buying it. And of course, it doesn’t hurt to mention that LCD screens are cheaper than OLED ones.

Or am I missing something?

Apparently Sony’s latest triluminous “LED” screens are all the rage in their towers.
Clearly Sony can do no wrong.

I am tempted. FFX FFX-2 would be perfect on a handheld. Now give me some more RPGs like Dragon Quest 8 and the TV thingy then I am SOLD.
But it has been out for awhile and just not many games that tickle my fancy. More of a Wii U for the PS4 than anything else.

Dude, Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward is flipping awesome, been jamming for 16 hours so far. I am so into this game, it’s all I think about. Plus there is Persona 4 and Muramasa Rebirth as well as 2 Atalier games for the RPG nuts. Mixed with PSN + , Vita is a winner…I’m not biased, I swear

Obviously Chaos Rings, CR 2 is the bestest, I spent 24 hours on that game lol Drake Rider is okay, bit repetitive. Final Fantasy Dimensions is not half bad either. Adventure Bar story is really fun but the game I am loving now is Might and Magic Clash of Heroes

Nope. I like me some OLED. Then again a thinner cheaper PSV might be the right move in getting the console to move out of stores and into hands. That being said. The kicker is the initial investment. If the new Vita’s are going to be made cheaper, surely the consumer should be getting the kick back from it?
Make a Vita sub 1.5k and you will start seeing them fly.

OLED is the superior tech in terms of image quality. LCD is going to be used to cut costs. Who claimed LCD on Vita would look better?
