Yesterday,we reported that a new Syndicate game was in the works from EA, but not in the form that everyone was expecting. Instead, EA is giving us a FPS version of the game, and the response has been less than enthusiastic towards this.

But there is some good news for those of you bemoaning the current state of the classic game. A number of developers, from the original Syndicate developer Bullfrog Games, are involved with the reboot, and they’re just as passionate as their fans in bringing back the franchise.

EA Partners executive producer Jeff Gamon and Art Director John Miles were working at Bullfrog Games, although not directly on Syndicate itself, all those years ago, and the duo claim that EA has been looking to bring back the iconic property for over a decade now.

"There is a body of Bullfrog people in EA Partners, and this is something we felt passionate about bringing back", Miles said to PSM3 in an interview. "It felt like one of those worlds that is always exciting and interesting, so there’s been a concept of sorts rolling around between equals."

The original Syndicate game was first released to the public in 1993, and was followed up with a less successful sequel in 1996, called Syndicate Wars. Players had to lead a gang of cyberpunk operatives and saboteurs, while taking on rival gangs and corporations. The key gimmick however, was that your gang could be modified to suit your tastes, making for some variable gameplay, years ahead of its time.

EA earlier announced that it wants to make “A challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original”. "I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic," Gamon concluded.
