The next Assassin’s Creed game won’t be turning Japanese

Apollo Creed

Are you dreaming of an Assassin’s Creed sequel that has you Peter Parkouring your way across Feudal Japan and locking samurai blades with noble lords? Well keep dreaming.

Speaking to Adweek via Game Informer, Ubisoft Toronto Managing Director Jade Raymond explained that the land of the rising Ultimate Banzuke obstacle would not be seeing any white-hooded ninjas anytime soon. In fact, Assassin’s Creed 5 would take place in her favourite historical period instead.

As for choosing a historical setting for Assassin Creed games, Raymond explained that whatever was chosen, had to be something that would keep the brand going for a few years. “When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV,” she said.

If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.

There’s no clue yet as to what the next annual Assassin’s Creed game will be. Assassin’s Creed 2 saw two further releases after that game was launched that continued the story of Renaissance hero Ezio Auditore, while Assassin’s Creed 3 is clearly being treated as a bad memory.

I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Edward Kenway get the Ezio treatment this year, while Ubisoft continues to work on the core fifth game. And as cool as Japan would be, I have to admit, there are far cooler periods of history to examine that don’t involve swords, sandals and shinobi.

I have actually played it on my PS3. But not being used to using a controller to aim with I got tired of it quickly. Also felt a bit slow to me. BUT that’s just me.

Sleeping Dogs looks amazing though. Wonderful graphics.

Edward Kenway sucked IMO, and though I really enjoyed AC3, Connor was also a bad character….

I would probably get hate for this, but I would love a AC game that is set in either WW1 or WW2!

One of the computers you hack in AC black flag they discuss what time periods they can use next (Lazygamer had a feature where they said possible next locations might be a hint because of that)
They also said they’ll never use a period where cars or other mechanical transport is available. So I don’t think we’ll ever see any of the WW periods.

tired of useless protagonists, i want a main character who actually knows whats up.
WW2 could be fun, enough mystery to spin a story around, Hitler an ex german assassin with a piece of eden, his mysterious disappearance at the end of the war, plausible, but too easy.

Blaghhhhh… screw Ubisoft on behalf of all off-line OCD gamers.

If you want the 100% fully upgraded single partner experience with Jade you are required to do a bit of swinging with the local whore on the high sreet before U-play with these people anymore.

U register and pay then no pay but ARE FORCED to play on-line if you want to fully upgrade the single player Jack Daw bitches.

It is the first time that I have experienced a $70 single player game affected by CORPORATE DATA FARMING GREED.

One cannot even enjoy a solid escape from reality anymore without some greedy chop on the top floor rubbing his gold laced hands together.

P.S. WTF????? Is that shit??? Please rate this level out of 5, we want your input.
      Fuck off.

So no Templar attempting to take control of the Emperor of Japan with the Assassins attempting to stop them when both groups are pretty much wiped out by one of the local Ninja clans?
You could then play as an someone whose father/mother was an Assassin that was taken in by one of the small Ninja clans and you’ve been trained in both the Ninja and Assassin styles.

With the Japanese building style it would be epic.

Im tired of every story being part of desmonds ancestral line, but having no idea what an assassin is.
I want a new Altair, someone who actually knows whats going on, and i dont want to wait 3 games to get boring like ezio.

i do agree with you though, too much set up in the animus, not enough going on in the real world, got through the whole of Black flag and we still dont know who the main character is.
spent all these games waiting to get our hands on a modern day assassin Desmond, only to be rid of him without doing anything interesting in AC3, now we have to train a new one… pfff

the combat style definitely needs somethign fresh, black flag was good, but it was just a better version of the same combat from all the prev games.
if they can refresh the combat style to something that makes sense for cowboys.
and come up with a colour palette that isnt boring as shit like AC3, then Id be down for some cowboys, but all Im seeing are dull and dusty browns.

But Id be more down for a vibrant chinese or japanese worlds with kungfu / samurai flavoured combat.
