TheOrder1886

Later today Sony will be showing off a rather extended trailer, including gameplay, from the rather anticipated Ready At Dawn developed The Order: 1886. The embargo for preview info on the game is up today, so expect a tonne of details later. However, one publication has already published their info. Here’s some information from French Magazine Jeux Vidéo (via E-mpire) you may find interesting.

First off, there’s the giant elephant in the room. The game is rendered at 1920×800, at a 2:40:1 aspect ratio. It’s running at 30 fps. Of course if you’ve been following the brief cookie crumble trail you’d already know that. It’s not 1080p at 60fps – and because it’s a Sony game, resolution and framerate won’t matter. Ready at Dawn has said that they’ve chosen this to make it feel cinematic

That said, it does look and sound incredible. It will indeed feel cinematic, and yes that does unfortunately mean that it will have a few quick-time events in its cut-scenes. It also, says the magazine, feels much like a survival horror and features “brutal” hand-to-hand combat.

Hand to hand fights are pretty similar visually to the ones in The Last of Us. and are really brutal. fight scenes are contextual and with multiple choices depending on your surrounding. You have to look around your character with the camera during bullet time and select what you want to do.

The hand to hand fights won’t look the same ever. it uses some kind of linking system colbined (sic) with player reactivity.

Here are some gifs for your eyeballs. Warning, they’re 5mb a piece.

Check put that cloth physics! We’ll have the video and info up as soon as it’s available.

Hey Ready At Yawn………What’s with the QTE and k@k graphics?? Ha ha, game looks very pretty, but if the gameplay doesn’t blow you away and add tons of new stuff, it’s going to be another big over the shoulder failure!

Very true but unlike Ryse this has guns. So it might be more like Gears of War if the Qtes is going to be a big part of the gameplay

I see only one quick time in those two gifs. So I’m not too sure why people are jumping to the conclusion that it’s going to have a ton of QTEs just because some leak on the internet says “it has a few QTEs”. Almost every action game we play have some QTEs in it. It all depends on the execution.

Let’s just wait and see if its any good or not, I for one will keep a positive frame of mind.

Jeez, we’re all a bunch of negative and cynical bastards if we start judging a game before we’ve even seen gameplay footage.

I’ve got a horrible feeling this is going to be another Ryse. Ryse is still the prettiest next gen game I have seen, but terribly boring (just like Knack). Ryse, despite the beauty it has, is just not worth it. I am keeping in the back of my mind that this might be better than I expect, and I’m just being hard on it because of all the greatness we have about to come out. Infamous, South Park, Thief and Watchdogs are already a game too many to look forward to.

Honestly, I think this will be a great game… And I don’t think QTEs will be the ‘be-all-and’end-all’ of the game – I think they’ll just be a small percentage of the gameplay.

Been looking forward to this since I saw the first trailer in the PS4 Feb’13 announcement.

      The Order: 1866 = 1920 x 800 = 1 536 000 pixels per frame

      Ryse: Son of Rome = 1600 x 900 = 1 440 000 pixels per frame

Not only does the order have better graphics, but it runs in a higher resolution (if only slightly).

      Your argument = FAIL

Mine was not an argument. Just a statement, Geoff said it did not matter. Yet all cross platform news always speaks of Res. Ill wait to see The order run on screen to get a view of how pretty it is. Could not be arsed by those arguments. If the game is fun I will play.

It’s actually more.. as this game is running at 4 x MSAA!!!! that requires a crazy amount of GPU power with all the physics, lighting and effects in the game. it requires huge amount of super fast GPU memory (hence the GDDR5 coming in to play here). http://www.tested.com/tech/pcs/1194-how-to-choose-the-right-anti-aliasing-mode-for-your-gpu/

I don’t think anyone has bothered to follow this games development and why it runs at this resolution? Well lets say that the PS4 is pushing enough GPU grunt to deliver the cinematic experince in 4x MSAA. http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/02/06/the-order-1886-will-have-4x-aa-undecided-between-1920×800-and-1920×1080-lack-of-multiplayer-expained/ This is an amazing acheivement this early on in its life and its got nothogn to do with it not being able to play the game at 1080p.

Most games use the basi FSAA, this one uses 4 x MSAA (you can also have 8 and 16) (any PC owner will know is a proper anti-aliasing Technique used in more powerful GPUs)

Both are designed to remove jagged edges from objects in 3d video games and any other application that displays 3D polygonal meshes. Aliasing is caused by the screen displaying a shape or shapes which don’t match the shape of a pixel (square).
To get around this, MSAA will calculate a colour in-between the edge of one 3D object with the colour of the pixels adjacent or around it. 2x will calculate it by doubling the resolution and then rescaling the image to fit your screen. 4x will quadruple. Basically the higher the multiplication, the less jagged edges will appear. video cards take a big performance hit for this so the frame rate will be much lower.

FXAA is a newer technique developed by an engineer at Nvidia. and will basically perform the calculation on Every pixel on the screen, which takes less time to compute for video cards, so whilst frame rate will almost be unaffected, the image as a whole will appear softer and a bit blurry.

Use MSAA for the best image quality.
Use FXAA to mask jagged edges without taking much performance hit.
