Tomorrow, when the embargo is lifted, we’ll finally get to see what critics think of Ready at Dawn’s beautiful – but possibly dull – The Order: 1886. Right now though, there’s little more than Fear, uncertainty and doubt – and it’s becoming the game that people not entrenched in SonyLand love to hate. It’s something Ready at Dawn is calling a “bandwagon of negativity”.
According to The Order: 1886 game director Dana Jan, things about the game have been blown out of proportion, most notably the game’s 5 hour-running time not being reported as a speed run.
“We have this uncanny ‘haterade’ for our game no matter what,” Jan said, speaking to told Develop.
“People are looking for something to throw at our game, some reason to hate it. I’m excited to hear what people who have actually played the game think about it, how do they feel about the quality and the quantity? I think by and large that most people are going to be satisfied.”
The internet exists as a way of providing negative feedback, he asserts – and it’s very rare that people ever post happy, positive things online. People are also far more willing to jump on hate-filled, negative bandwagons.
“It’s more just shocking that for a game that isn’t out yet, for a franchise that is brand new, the amount of negativity is just…” he said. “I just feel like these days it’s so easy to be negative and I think the internet is the new playground for bullies. Who goes out of their way to really go and say something positive, right?
“If you go out to a restaurant and you have a good time, do you go online immediately to post something? But if you have a bad experience, you’ll jump on because you want to warn people about it right? It takes a lot more effort to say something nice than to say something negative, and I think people are excited to jump on some bandwagon of negativity.
“I don’t think people need to go out there and be unbiased supporters of our stuff or anything either. I want them to make up their own minds about the game period. It just seems like the pendulum swings the other way so frequently. I mean, we’ll see, right?”
We’ll see indeed. The Order: 1886 is out on Friday, and is exclusive to the PlayStation 4.

Sell them all for R500 and boom, point still valid. With consoles it’s not a one game to one game case. There are games you finish quickly and there are games you take your time with and there are you finished games. So when you want to buy a new game you have options. If you so choose.

Yeah, It’s generally on websites like this one where you have a bunch of ordinary people feeding off the crumbs of real artist. PS4 sucks, X Box sucks, The PC version looks dodge cause it’s a port. Gamergate this and misogynist that. At the end of the day, It’s just a game and not the Holy Grail. Dude, I am not attacking Lazygamer staff or articles. I just make a point of trying to provide a objective alternative view to some of the ludicrous points raised in articles about gaming in general. This started because I think hatreds depiction of violence against woman is beyond sick. Being a brother to two sisters, I find the apparent lack of moral fortitude shown by my fellow gamers very disturbing. I find the lack of respect by your comments section to be juvenile. The lack of awareness pertaining to the fundamental decency our humanity is suffering through lack of any meaningful debate when warranted on these comments. I back up my comments with meaningful insight or sarcasm when provoking takes place. If you wan’t to continue living in your hidey hole where the world doesn’t exists you are out of luck because I will continue to post on this website and maybe some kid will benefit and be a better person because of the trolling I do.

As a regular I take great offense to this.
I am well aware that we are privileged to have a chance to game. But let me ask you this? As a person privileged enough to be able to afford (Mostly only on special really. I’m not very rich) a game does that mean I should be okay with any game released? Should I just shut up and take the game because “I am lucky to be able to”?
I don’t think so. It is just a game. You are completely right. But they’ve made massive mistakes along the way.
They allowed the game to be embargoed. First mistake. When you embargo a game and rely on people to buy it day 1 without the opportunity to hear what the game is really like, what are you saying? What are you hiding?
Therefore when a 5 hour video gets released people are naturally going to be upset. Some people have pre-ordered and paid for this and now they find out it may only be 5 hours long?
Sure, granted the game isn’t actually. A speed run is hardly a fair comparison. But take in to account these people have no idea what they are getting because of the embargo. Yes, they are lucky to be able to fork out the cash for the game and are privileged, but I bring back my original point that being privileged to have something doesn’t mean you must automatically take everything you get from it without complaint.
Now you go and call the regulars of the site privileged, entitled whiners? Thanks for that. I am very much part of the regulars but have never acted entitled. Privileged yes, but not complaining for no reason.
I feel I am quite allowed to complain about a game that has a pre-order but embargoed. I feel I am quite allowed to be upset if, as a South African, I have to pay R900 for a game I have no clue on whether it will be good or not.
Yes, I don’t have to pre-order, and I don’t. But what happens in the gaming industry affects every single one of us. Being complacent about dodgy dealings and poor releases will allow devs to continue doing it.
Lastly, if you hate this site so much? Then why are you even here? Not to be nasty, but getting on to a site just to tell everyione the articles and people are crap? What are you trying to get at? If it’s so bad then you clearly take nothing of value away from here and therefore you should rather just cut your ties and move along. The same way I felt News24 was a cesspool. Except I didn’t go on to N24 and attack their readers and journos. I just decided not to go where I get no value.

R800+ is a bit a steep price for a 9 hour game, say what you like at the end of the day most of us will prob get this when it hits the prelayed shelves, or at the very least have old last gen titles we can trade in for this… SHORT experience.
At the end of the day the only thing that would’ve saved this title was if they added MP and campaign co-op.

That was my argument at first but then I was reminded that we do not live in a single player age anymore and a typical COD fan would spen 500 hours brainlessly re-spawning in co-op. Its all about fast internet connections these days and less about emotional immersion.

The internet HAS become a cesspool of people crying about one thing or another or screaming the sky is falling over freakin’ ANYTHING. Gamers are some of the worst. I rarely read the comments on any article or video anymore because when I do it’s just some assholes being dicks. People have an incessant need to fit in, and it IS far easier to jump on the bandwagon of bashing and hate, especially for video games because god forbid anyone be positive about ANYTHING or they’ll be torn apart and called a “fanboy” (as if being a fan is a bad thing) or some crap. Negativity screams louder than anything positive and the positive people I think just toss their hands in the air and walk away. Why? Because they are more mature and it’s not worth it trying to explain it to the idiot haters. It’s a sad state of affairs that it’s easier to bash something (even things the person knows nothing about) than to ever give something a try or display patience or an ounce of deeper thought.
I’m not sure I’ll play The Order because well… gaming is an expensive hobby and I’m broke right now. But I wish it the best of success. Hopefully the haters will crawl back to their holes.
