The PS3 was September’s Best Selling Console

Here’s your chance to pretend to be surprised; Spurred by the relaunch of the console as a sleeker, more slender and most importantly more affordable model American PS3 sales have more than doubled from the previous month making it September’s top selling home console.

Yeah, you read that right – It even managed to beat the Wii for the first time since man discovered fire.

Sony managed to sell just under half a million PS Triples in September, besting the Wii by 30 000 units, as well as earning the right to point and laugh at the Xbox 360 thanks to that platform’s 140 000 disparity.

Somehow though, neither console managed to outsell Nintendo’s small in stature, but gargantuan in sales DS, which sold 524 200 touch-screen handhelds.

It remains to be seen if the PS3 will carry this momentum forward, but considering its current stellar line up of games – such as this month’s Uncharted 2 – I highly suspect that it will.

I don’t know a single person with a DS, yet it always seems to sell half a bajillion units a day. I clearly have the “other half” of the planet as friends.

Given their incredible line-up, along with the new price, I can’t see how the PS3 won’t dominate this Christmas. Heck, I’m beginnning to scheme on how to afford one in this time of economic crisis.

Question: How can the Xbox have a 140 000 sales DEFICIT? People are returning more than they’re buying? Or do you mean deficit to the PS3’s sales figures?

      That’s 140 000 less units sold than the PS3 😉

Indeed, but I’ve edited it for further clarity. 😛

At EBGames here here Canada, there is an offer valid until October the 31st. Trade-in any 4 games worth $8 and the PS3 Slim with a 120GB + the Guitard Hero 3 kit is yours for $199! Had to trade in Left for Dead, Ghostbuster, Ace Combat 6 and F.E.A.R. (all for the Xbox 360). I think there is a similar offer at GameStop in the US. The bad thing is that is that is impossible to know the trade-in value of your games. You have to bring’em to the store and have’em scanned. I was able to find MGS4 at $25! So I will at least have a good game to play. 😎

Actually, the Canadian Ebgames “virtual flyer” is currently available right here and the deal is probably going to be there until Oct. 31st. (last item on the page) http://www.ebgames.ca/fsi.asp
