At the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, EA’s chief technical officer Rajat Taneja has called Sony’s PlayStation 4 a  "gigantic leap for the industry," saying that Sony’s next gen console offers "eight to ten times the power" of the current crop of consoles.

"We no longer have to constrain our games or ration computer graphics, memory or bandwidth," Taneja said.  "We can let the games really flourish; 1080p, 60 frames a second" on the newly announced PlayStation  giving gamers "a level of gameplay experience that is unprecedented."

"We are excited about Sony’s news and the launch of the next-gen of consoles. At EA, we have never been as prepared or more ready for the start of a new console."

They’re particularly happy that the system utilises standard PC architecture, allowing them to do things a little quicker.

"What used to take months in the past will now take days to do," he said.

EA’s also hinted about when Microsoft’s next console might be available for purchase.

During the conference, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said he assumed that Sony and Microsoft would be "more aligned in their timing" of console release – making the whole transition between generations a little easier for everybody.

The PS4 may just leave even the fastest of fast PC’s behind simply because PC’s don’t have that much GDDR5 memory available to them. On the plus side though, games will have to be dumbed down for PC 😀

Actually its not even as fast as a PC, Sony them self said that the ps4 is still slower than high end PC’s. If you are interested I can supply a link.

I heard this before – specifically when the PS3 came out. Also there were a couple of articles discussing the imminent death of PC gaming – I distinctly remember an article in NAG with corpse in morgue with the toe tag reading PC gaming. Guess what? hardware power alone doesn’t make a gigantic leap or revolution in the gaming industry (I doubt the developers today can use the PS3 to its full capacity) – its more about the actual games released on the platform – nobody will really remember the PS3 a couple of years from now – it will just be platform on which Nathan Drake and Little Big Planet first appeared. Oh and the PC still isn’t dead to gaming 😀
