Rumour around these here internets is that Sony is starting to officially nix development support for their aging handheld.

According to French site PSPGen, PSP developers have started receiving word from Sony that they’ll no longer be supplying development or testing kits. Is this a portent to the imminent announcement of the oft-rumoured, undoubtedly in development PSP 2? Probably.

Apparently the messages developers have been getting reads :

SCEE will no longer be selling the PSP Development Tool (DTP-T2000A) or Testing Tool (DTP-H2500A) past November 15th. Please order in advance if you require these development units.

We will advise you when a new model becomes available

With Nintendo’s next generation handheld expected in March next year, it would be entirely unsurprising if Sony were beginning to try focus towards their next portable gaming system. The question though, is if it’ll topple Nintendo’s tech, and if it’ll finally have the dual analogues people have been asking for since 2005.

I don’t think I’m going to purchase both handhelds this time around, and considering how fantastic the 3DS’ line up is, Sony’s going to have to really wow me to get me pick their mobile platform over Nintendo’s.

    Dear Sony,

If you would be so kind, please refrain from making the PSP-2 look like an Ipad. We expect that level of retardation from Microsoft. I’m sure, you’ll probably go the 3D route, that’s fine, just don’t make it too gimmicky.

Mini-Blu-ray discs would be an improvement over UDM, but please don’t bother with mini blu-ray movies. I already rip my own DVDs and reformat to avi or mpeg which I pop onto my memory stick. Yeah, I know the MIAA consider it a felony, but quite frankly they can suck on the Berne convention, and no, I’m not sharing or selling my rips. I’m too much of a cheap dick about these things. I don’t even believe in borrowing games. Yeah… I keep it straight and narrow.

You know what I would really love? Maybe include a ripper with the PSP2 so that I can add my own content to PSP2. That would be swell.

By the way, learn from your past mistakes, and don’t make the PSP2 like the PSP Go, because DRM scares me off, and more so when there are download limitations on things I actually paid real money on.

In addition, cloud computing is a really nice idea, but infrastructure remains a serious limitation. Yeah, I know, I live in Africa (no I don’t ride lions or giraffes…), but even in Europe and America, not everyone is too keen on it. Microsoft might think it’s the future, but comeon, Sony, Balmer is a dumbass. Between you and me, we know they suck. I mean comeon, Eye Toy is the future of gaming? HaHaHaHa. Yeah, I thought you’d find that funny.

    Yours sincerely,
    James

PS: please include two analogue sticks, and make sure the square button doesn’t get raped by the screen again.

Correction: MPAA not MIAA, I was thinking of the RIAA. 😛

I still dont get all the hate towards PSP. Oh and no this isnt a respone to ODST above but just general ramblings of my own.

This year alone ive spent 80 hours on the magnificent Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 60 hours on the you guessed it magnificent Peace Walker. I played the demo for Ghost of Sparta and it plays and looks unbelievable. You really want a showcase of what the PSP hardware can do go play this Demo. Ready at Dawn are freaking masters. I wish they would make an HD game  Also one of the biggest draws for me are the PS1 download classice since i missed out on classics like FFVII, FFVIII, Resident Evil 2, FFIX, Vagrant story and many others.

Nexy year looks even better for PSP when you see the trailers for Valkyria Chronicles 3, Yakuza: Black Panther, FFXIII Agito. Fantastic support from Japan and well done to them for embracing portable gaming with both the DS and PSP. As for the West i cant understand why they couldnt try and make some original stuff like Japan tried with Loco Rocco and Patapon. They tried to port all their shooter two stick games and failed miserably.

I get the feeling that Sony only needs to do two things to make the PSP popular in the west and that is add another analogue stick and better Graphics. Then all the FPS fanboys will be happy. I dont think Sony need to add any gimmicks like 3D or a touch screen even though i think they probably will. Just add the second analogue Sony and all will be well.

Anyways since it will probably be my last 12 months of gaming on PSP before little brothr comes out i just had to post this and be probably the one and only person with something positive to say about Sony’s first attempt into the portable gaming market.

    PSP2 :w00t:

I seriously think Sony are going to do good on the next PSP.

There was a story last week about a mobile cpu with integrated GPU that can deliver PS3 graphics on a handheld.
