The queen of beggars sees all in the latest trailer for Thief

If there’s one thing that I’m digging about the Thief reboot, it’s that Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal are building up a brand new mythology for the franchise. Garret’s city is sick and broken, and he’s not the only game in town that is looking to make a little bit of coin using less than legit methods.

A new trailer is out for the game, the second in a series that shines the spotlight on a character and gives more detail to the broken city under the control of the savage Baron Northcrest and a puzzling illness that happens to have infected the citizens, known only as ‘”the Gloom”.

Thief (3)Thief (1)Thief (2)

“Let me tell you about the City.
We both know a thing or two about survival. We have grown old together.
Time and again it has been brought down, only to rise from its own ashes.
But this time is different. The balance has shifted;
There will be blood. Seeping, oozing; bleeding from every artery in this city.
But still… there is one who may yet be the key.
One who fears the light inside him as much as the darkness.
Yes… He will do nicely”

Enter the queen of Beggars, an ancient part of the city who holds real power in the Beggars Court and rules in a manner befitting a true king or queen. She’ll most likely have a larger part to play in the game, and those rats of hers seem to be the eyes and ears of her kingdom.

The game is out next year February 28 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3.

This may be a good game, but I think it’s going to disappoint in that it won’t stay very true to the original games. Lots of things are already pointing to that for me. For example the visual representation of Garrett is nowhere near the original.

I think the whole point of a reboot is to reimagine core elements from a modern perspective. Obviously the result won’t please everyone but it often yields surprising things. There are always the original games for those who don’t like the reboot. I’m particularly interested in the scalable difficulty settings….

I’m getting a bit of a Dishono(u)red vibe from this.

It is a bad thing because Thief had a very unique look and feel to it,
and now it’s turning into a Dishonored clone.. pretty disappointed with
        it so far.

If I didn’t have Total Annihilation already then I would’ve bought that. Only $1.79
Would be cool to play online if I can ever find someone to play with me. And of course, it would rule if it was on Steam
