The Square-Enix Merger was a failure

Once upon a time, Squaresoft was a well respected company specialising in developing Japanese RPG’s – including some of my favourites, like Final Fantasy 6 (Still the best in the series), Chrono Trigger and The Legend of Mana. Oh, and that overrated game that everybody loves ends in “VII.” The Enix corporation, likewise, was known for titles like Dragon Quest   and Star Ocean. In 2003, they merged – becoming a mega developer and publisher.

According to former Square Boss  Hisashi Suzuki, that merger has been a complete and utter failure. He took to Twitter to mumble and grumble about the state of the corporation after the 2003 merger.

“There’s no vision for the future," he continued, noting that the company’s worth, ascertained by its public stock figures, were lower than when Square was its own entity.

Suzuki was the president of Square co from 2000 to 2002. He was also a  Director at the newly merged Square Enix from 2003 to 2005. He’s now a Director at Sega, so he probably shouldn’t be saying too much about companies being failures.

I’ve pretty much stopped caring about Square-enix developed games; they’ve really not produced much of worth this generation as far as I’m concerned. As a publisher though, they garner much more of my interest, publishing games like Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Hitman: Absolution and Tomb Raider.
