1313

Star Wars games have been pretty terrible of late. Kinect Star Wars for the Xbox 360 was an abomination, Angry Birds Star Wars was actually pretty good save for the fact that it was Angry Birds and Tiny Death Star, though cute isn’t really much of a Star Wars game. There was a new hope; Star Wars 1313, a game that had players take on the role of bounty hunters instead of Jedi.

When we first saw it in action in 2012 with our own eyeballs, it blew our minds. Dark and gritty, It looked like a fine return to for for LucasArts. Here’s a look, to refresh your memory.

When Disney acquired George Lucas’ properties last year, the company shut down LucasArts and cancelled the game.Soon thereafter, they gave EA the licence to make Star Wars games, and it was hoped that EA might pick up where LucasArts had left off, and bring 1313 to life.

Unfortunately, it’s not to be. According to to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, Disney has abandoned the Star Wars 1313 trademark. The trademark is now void, because “no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.”

It was honestly the most promising bit of Star Wars media since Knights of the Old Republic, and now it’s more than likely dead. EA and DICE are busy re-invigorating Star Wars Battlefront, with a new Frostbite-powered entry in to the series set for release in 2015. i have to say though, that another multiplayer-centric Star Wars game really doesn’t excite me very much – though there’s talk of something open-world in the works.

Please stop reminding us! As if I’m not already unnecessarily depressed today for no apparent reason. Now you are giving me even more reason to be so 🙁

WEll, I just started playing Star Wars The Old Republic and I am loving it! Every quest thus far has been voice acted, and you have Mass Effect style conversation options for them! Much better than WoW text spam-next-next-next quests! Plus Sith are cool. What we REALLY need from Star Wars games is a Mass Effect (or Knights of the Old Republic) style game!!!

Are you serious about SWTOR? Many I’ve spoken too say it’s too much grind and not enough like KOTOR?

It’s very grind… but also very well made, but you gotta have friends on that game to make it through some things. I beta tested the hell out of that game and found that if you didn’t grind enough, and didn’t make some sort of alliance with someone you’d be screwed when trying to make it through the larger instances that demanded that at least 4 players enter.

It’s actually a really cool game, I’ve gotten quite a few people to play it… I just haven’t downloaded the client again 😛

The great thing about SW: TOR is that you can play it essentially like a
SP game, just for the storyline(s), and can completely ignore end-game
instance / raid grind if you want.

It certainly *helps* to have friends you can do instances (flashpoints) and heroic quests with, but it’s not required – people shout in regional chat for people for heroic quests, & you can get instance groups through the LFG tool easily enough, though expect a wait if you’re DPS.

Give me a shout if any of you are playing on Red Eclipse (EU), maybe we can meet up sometime 🙂

It is free (well, you have to download it first), so nothing lost (except cap) if you want to try it.

I think my folder is 23GB. I had someone else with uncapped download it, so I do not know how much of that is compressed

And that’s why I haven’t downloaded it again lol

            The beta was only 12gigs

“I think my folder is 23GB” he was referring to the SWTOR game client… Not your Female Acquaintance Person folder.

Please sir, do not underestimate the size of my “Female Acquaintance Person folder” – mine is MUCH larger than that! Much, much larger!

I am not at the grind part yet, but I learnt my lesson with WoW. I am treating it like KOTOR, rather living the story than playing to be good. Group quests are only completed if there is someone spamming LFG or a friend online – I focus only the story quests mostly. If it starts becoming a chore, I will start a new character and RPG it as well until I am through all the choices.

I actually liked the story line of SWTOR, but it kinda got ruined for me after it went free to play

        I do not remember a grind…

A grind in my eyes is WoW Classic grind or AION grind. I had to grind 3-4 levels before I could move on.

SWTOR does not have grind. If you follow the story, do the quests on every world where they have sent you then you wont even finish the final world’s questlog.

It is a very good story, I liked it and I am actually starting to play again. The new updates look very good.

You can actually complete a story without paying anything except for the CAP if you do not have uncapped.

So basically they had a complete game that they just had to wrap up and ship out that millions of die hard fans and other gamers would have given their left nut for(Girl gamers would have relieved their boyfriends of their right one) and they just can it?

Yes I know I have been trolling with this game for a while now, but that was because I hoped that it would still be released some day. But now it seems they are more interested in using the game’s tech in their movies.

I wonder if this is because EA couldn’t find a way to introduce micro transactions into the game so they decided it’s not worth while! Or maybe because it was already a complete game and they don’t sell complete games, only half assed games with DLC

They did something similar with Command & Conquer recently. Something strange is happening over at EA.

“Disney has abandoned the Star Wars 1313 trademark” – Optimistic view: Maybe they wanted a new name and have not totally abandoned it? Pessimist view: This is ES and Disney, two evil companies!

Good point. The name is dead, so I wonder if that just means that they’ve changed the title?
