Believe it or not, but there’s an actual story behind all the murder in Hitman. Poisoning an Italian target’s pasta or making certain that a local would-be dictator meets the business end of a toilet are but a few threads in a very wide narrative tapestry. With the recent fifth episode of Hitman providing one of the bigger teases yet of a wider conspiracy, developer IO Interactive say that they’re “just getting started” on a story that’ll last for several seasons.
“We wanted to do a really ambitious story line that would span several seasons and also build this ensemble cast,” lead writer Michael Vogt said to GameSpot.
In the old games, the targets were always the most interesting characters, but then you’d just kill them off instantly and move on to the next one. And now we wanted to build a much bigger main cast that will survive for much longer. The story’s really only beginning [with the first season]. Season 1 is the first act in a feature film. You know all the characters, you know the stakes, you know the dilemma, but it’s only getting started.
The first season of Hitman is almost done and in the bag, as the final Japanese episode will kick off the connection between Agent 47 and the mystery shadow client even further. The story has only just gotten started, as the first few episodes of Hitman were meant to feel like “business as usual,” said Vogt.
You’re supposed to feel what it’s like to be Agent 47. You’re the best assassin in the world; you’re travelling the globe and killing the elite and all that and kinda feeling what it’s like for Agent 47 on a Tuesday. The prologue, which takes place in the past, is definitely on the main story, and then the main story fades into the background and just plays out in the cutscenes where we introduce the main characters… and then towards the end [of Season 1] we merge it again.
Colorado is this merging point, where from now on and going forward, the missions and the main story are fully integrated.
And the recent Freedom Fighters episode ended on a tantalising hook, that I won’t spoil here. Hitman’s first season will also be available in a collected edition next year January, for those of you who are the most patient of assassins. I reckon you’re going to be in for a treat.

Agent 47… The one agent I want to to play with so bad, and yet I am too dumb to do this. And going in guns blazing in a Hitman game is just wrong…

Here’s how the first season is described on Steam: “Buy HITMAN™ – FULL EXPERIENCE [Episodes 1-7]”
Full experience vs. Story is only starting. Okay then.
So I’ll assume there’re another two seasons, because movies generally have 3 acts, at R500 a season (presuming you don’t increase the price). So R1.5k for the real full experience game – on PC, never mind more expensive console.

Was Mass Effect, in 3 parts, not (please, no more ending debates), not a great 3 act story?
Several others, where you get the “full” experience only through multiple games, as the story is not completed in one game. StarCraft 2, for example.

That is true, but I think you’re comparing apples with oranges.
Hitman has far more in common with episodic games like Telltale’s Walking Dead than a trilogy of games like ME or SC because neither of those games are episodic in the same sense Hitman is. Each “episode” of ME or SC is a full game, Hitman will be a single full game once all its episodes are complete.
