Tomb Raider

In news that most likely will not shock anybody ever, Tomb Raider is getting a sequel. More details after the jump once a certain set of switches have been pulled in the ancient ruins of the old Lazygamer server room dungeon that is populated with zombified interns.

Square Enix CEO of Europe and North America, Phil Rogers, posted an open letter on the company blog in which he discussed the sequel and how Squeenix was committed to getting it made:

I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently.

Tomb Raider was pretty much loved by anyone who played the game. It reset the franchise, and turned Lara Croft into a more grounded and realistic character instead of a walking tech demo for jiggles. And hopefully for this sequel, Square Enix can at least lower their sales expectations a tad, as selling 3.4 million copies of a game should not be seen as a commercial failure.

  1. Can’t wait for it. Still my game of the year so far (The Last of Us didn’t impress me as much as I thought it would).

I thought it was good. Naughty Dog remain one of my favourite devs. I just preferred Tomb Raider.

Awesome game, although Bioshock: Infinite takes the cup for me.

To be fair, I haven’t played Bioshock: Infinite yet. I’m still excited for it. I’ve played all the other big hitters though. There are still several more coming out this year as well.

I am glad to hear this as all in all i did enjoy the game, I just hope they fix some issues.
Firstly it was way too short and way too easy. I played on hard because i wanted it to challenge me and i still plowed through it in no time.
Also dont introduce useless mechanics to try and be all survival then ignore them. Hey go hunt that deer and get some food because your obviously hungry, ok now thats done you are set for the rest of game and can forget this stupid and useless 5min you spent hunting that deer.
And hopefully more “tomb raiding” this time, the little side caves where you solve a little weight puzzle and pick up a generic “treasure” all seemed a bit of an after thought.

Oh Im sure you can hunt as much as you want, theres just no point apart from killing time

um for fun? is it only deer you can hunt? or other animals too?

          • Brenz

            August 2, 2013 at 09:59

Cant be too sure on that, after I saw there was no point I never even attempted it again

So if you played Gta5 you wouldnt kill hobos because there was not point? or put a bomb on a ice cream truck and blow up hookers? The point is to kill the deer! Okay better question there is other animals in the game to kill (not hunt)

Yes but in GTA you have an inclination to that, they dont tell you to, you dont have to, but the fact that you can makes you want to. That is fun, and the chaos that follows is fun.
Shooting a stupid deer then saying ok what now is not fun, especially when there are so many humans to kill…..

There is also a need to kill sets of animals for achievements and to meet challenge criteria…….

I can’t stand hunger mechanics in games. Yes, I get that it adds to immersion, but it’s also a silly distraction unless it has a real effect or bothers you every 5 minutes & done away with by a single click.

        Yes I agree with that.
But then just leave it out entirely, dont half ass a “mechanic”. If you nor going to do something properly dont do it at all.

I liked it though. It helped set the tone for the rest of the game. I wouldn’t of liked having to constantly hunt for survival after that point. It also wouldn’t of made much sense. There is a time in the story, and you eat all that game in the early hours of the first morning, by the time that afternoon comes, you’re caught in a desperate race to save your friend. Why would you stop and try find more game?

Tomb Raider is the second best game I played this year. Actually enjoyed it more than Bioshock:Infinite.

    (first is Far Cry 3)

Anyway, happy (and not surprised) to hear there’s a sequel. Let’s hope it’s just as good.
Is this going to be current gen or next gen? (or both?)

Super-psyched for this! Cannot wait! Tomb Raider was an amazing game, keeping me coming back for more and more even when I’d finished it multiple times. And, as far as I’m concerned, it’s right up there with Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us for Game of the Year 2013.

This is good news. I wasn’t really a fan of the old games. Only played Tomb Raider 2.

But this latest one was done so well. Hope they stick to that style of game.

Uncharted will still kick Tomb Raiders ass. Nothing comes close to Uncharted.

I played the entire Uncharted series again this year after I played Tomb Raider. And although I had that same impression after I finished Tomb Raider, I then realized after playing Uncharted again that it wasn’t as good as Tomb Raider. That was my experience anyways.
