The truth behind the 2 Battlefield 3 discs on Xbox 360

Around 2 weeks ago the world learned that the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3 was going to be released onto 2 discs thanks to some Japanese marketing material leaking out a bit early.

In reality no one should really care about having to change the discs in a game once or twice during a 8 hours sitting but it’s obvious flamebait and so it gets reported far and wide.

EA have now confirmed however that you’ll actually not have to change discs even on the Xbox 360 version while playing.

This is simply because disc 1 contains the multiplayer section, co-op levels and (optional) HD installation.

While disc 2 only contains the single player campaign.

So if you’re sitting down to complete the single player campaign you aren’t going to be required to change discs at any time unless you now decide to start playing multiplayer.

So all’s good and well right?

Well no, you see I’m wondering how that’s going to work with Beacons as with Beacons you can set a notification up stating that you want to play a certain game and then people can see that and invite you in. No say I want to play Battlefield 3 multiplayer so I set my beacon and then while I’m waiting I head into the single player to complete it on a harder level.

Nick them comes online, see’s my beacon and invites me into a game of BF3 rush. I’ll get my invite and have to swap out discs to join and it’s at this point that either I’m going to miss my invite and the slots get filled up or the Xbox is going to see that I’m playing BF3 and try join before kicking me out as I have the wrong disc.

I’d like to think EA and Microsoft have tested this to ensure it works but I’ve just got a feeling it’s going to give problems. Only time will tell I guess.
