Great news has turned up thanks to the Hollywood Reporter. It looks like new life has been breathed into the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune film project.

Hollywood writer and director David O. Russell, (Three Kings) who previously passed up the project has now signed on to write and direct the Columbia Pictures production of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

So, who should play who?

Game/Movie adaptations are slowly getting better and better, with Hollywood bigwigs finally realising that a decent budget and some actual talent can go along way. I take the more recent adaptation, Prince of Persia, as a good example especially when compared to atrocities like Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Blood Rayne and Super Mario Brothers. While not everyone loved the movie, it was still a pretty good action/adventure movie that a lot of people, both gamers and otherwise, enjoyed.

Now, we don’t know about you, but now that the project is underway once more, our money is definitely still on Nathan Fillion for the role of Nathan Drake. If you don’t remember, we did a Casting Call feature a while back and told you who we think was right for the roles, you can check it out here.

As far as I can tell David O Russel wasn’t involved in any way shape or for in 28 Days Later or it’s sequel.

Nathan Fillion would be a decent choice but id like Hugh Jackman.

I think Nolan North should do the role of Nathan Drake. He obviously has the voice down, and he does look the part pretty closely. ^_^

Gah! So many games… I STILL haven’t played Uncharted 2………

It will be interesting to see who ends up being the in the cast for the movie, particularly the lead role. It will also be very interesting to see how the movie pans out, if done properly it could be really good and lots of fun.

As the article says game adaptations are getting better which bodes well. I eventually watched the Prince of Persia movie, after initially not wanting to. I wasn’t sure about them picking Jake for the lead role. Turned out to actually be a very cool and fun movie. I still think it could have been much better with a different cast. Its dumb picking a white guy as a prince of persia, never mind a guy who usually does drama roles. And wasn’t sure about the princess either, she was supposed to be really hot?! Yeah right.

But then again, it must be pretty hard attracting top actors to game adaptations based on the history of shitty adaptations.

That Chun-Li movie, shit I bought it because of Kristin Kreuk. Damn not even her being in the movie made me keep watching it, I turned it off after like 5 minutes.

So all in all, I think Prince of Persia shows they are perhaps on the right track. Hopefully Uncharted would be good, but I’d put my money on it being screwed up.
