The Virtuasphere – Wii Fit to the extreme

We all love gaming and we all love exercising so why not combine the two into something truly remarkable? Well generally because I lied when I said we all love exercising and I doubt many people want to physically run around while playing Call of Duty.

But if you are one of the few who do want to do this then take a look at the Virtuasphere interview above, it’s pretty interesting and I can see some valid uses for it.  I just don’t think FPS gaming is one of them.

The basic principle is that you are shoved into an oversize hamster ball and then as you walk the ball turns and relays this information to a pc which then moves you forward. The idea is pretty basic really but I have a feeling getting it to work is an entirely different prospect.

If they can get the sphere to be a little more efficient I could see this as a great way for athletes to train at home instead of using a treadmill and if they can offer some force feedback through the ball they could really revolutionise the fitness industry.

Just again, I don’t see it as a gaming peripheral.
