The Witcher 3 313

Remember yesterday how I told you about Damien Monnier’s nude Milan twitter Q&A? It was because there was a press event in Milan for The Witcher 3. We weren’t invited, sadly, but Xbox UK went and asked some community questions to the Community Coordinator, Marcin Momot. He isn’t naked, but he does give some interesting answers.

Here is the interview for those who like watching things.

For those who prefer reading, he gives some interesting answers. For example, the game will have various difficulty settings. So, if you’re struggling to play on hard with its overly Dark Souls-esque gameplay, you can take it down to normal or even easy. In all honestly, I’d probably play on the easy setting just so that I can explore the massive world and engage with the story without the fear that everything is out to kill me. Speaking of the massive world, the complete map should be revealed soon; apparently they are planning some sort of special reveal which should be rather cool.

As for loot and inventory, of course you will have the usual two swords and magical signs, but you can also find blood weapons, axes and other means of killing things along the way. However, you won’t be able to carry all of them around with you. The more Gerald carries, the heavier he gets. Carry too much, and Geralt will only be able to walk, so you might want to sell off some of that extraneous gear.

Finally, Momot comments on side missions. He says they’ve measured them and they seem to offer an additional 50 hours of content. Considering that yesterday Monnier said that the game would be over 200 hours if you did everything, does this mean that the main story is 150 hours long? That is certainly quite something, especially if you carry over your saves from The Witcher 2; what an epic tale.

That tale will, of course, be based on the lore of The Witcher books, but Momot points out that while some of the people on the project read the books as children, plenty of them were first exposed to the Witcher with the games. As a result, not everyone has entrenched lore and we might see some cool new directions for the game that expand upon the existing story as told in the books.

Either way, Momot does admit that there is quite a lot of pressure to make The Witcher 3 the best game that people have ever seen. However, he also explains that with that pressure has also come a ton of support. The community really believes in the game and is excited to see what the studio does. While I’m really excited to see the game, and support the studio’s approach to it, I am still a bit wary of building up too much hype. There will always be bugs and issues in the game, but here’s hoping it’s still better than anything we’ve seen.

I think I’d stick to the normal difficulty myself. No reason to make it a frustrating affair by making it too difficult.

150 hours main quest? No. That’s too long. I barely managed the 80 hours DA:I took me before I started getting to the point of “get it over with already.” and this is double that?

    Not buying this. Just no.

Bwaaahaa! Well that makes two of us! But I don’t always believe in the “Oh our game is 200 hours” thing, because I, like you, get frustrated by the 70-80 hour mark and I have only encountered that a few times, BG2 being one of those, NWN also being one where you’d actually reach such a long gaming time, also Fallout 3 without fast travel is also one of the longest games I’d ever encountered…unintentionally….

Yeah lol. BG2 I’m yet to actually finish a play through, despite me loving the game and having started many play throughs throughout the years. Just too much.

I personally feel 20 – 50 hours is a good time to go for, 20-30 hours in Mass Effect for instance was perfect.

Exactly! You’d usually find that between about 30 and 40 hours of gameplay, you’ve spent just enough time to learn as much as you can about the important characters that you’ve encountered, this then also affects how much closer you have to be to the climax of the story and usually is the best general figure to be aiming at in any game as far as story length should go for….

20 – 30 hours. How many of those hours standing behind a box? 15-20 hours.

The Witcher 3 is a story driven game. If you get caught up in that story then it doesn’t matter how long it takes.

300 pages for a book is good. 1000 pages makes it a bad book. That’s why I liked, The Game Players of Titan, and didn’t like Harry Potty, how many pages did it take to finish the fucking story, 5000.

forgot what i was on about. Mass effect stand behind a box for 30 hours. The Witcher 3 gallop on a hourse around a big map and go kill whatever you like if you can kill it. No box. Is the story going to be the box. There has to be a box.

It does matter. That’s my point.

I know you can’t take anything that isn’t fangirling about The Witcher, but 150 hours for a game’s main story is longer than it’ll take to read every Harry Potter book, as well as the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

            Just some perspective.

I played plenty of 30 to a 100 hour rpgs as a little kid, thats a long time when your a child. I spent 500 hours into Fallout 3 realtime. If the game is good, you dont want it to end. Ive given up the mentality that I need to beat every game that comes out. I used to, but now there is just too many, pick one and enjoy the shit out of it and then move on to another.

I agree. Although i like to get my moneys worth I think 150 hours is a bit too much. I mean i didnt even bother to finish The Elder Scrolls Skyrim cause it was just way too big for me. There is just no time to play so long. Mass Effect franchise was was good between 20 -30 hours. I could possibly even do 60hours, but I dont see myself playing a game for ages and ages on end. Ill still be buying The Witcher 3 though. Played 1 and 2 and well… i want to finish the trilogy ^_^

Not too long for me, I hope it’ll take closer to 300 hours to do everything. But I like really long games. It’s a game for gamers who like a good long game, not some 80 quickie.

Depends on the game. DAI is full of fetch quests and monotonous quests, not all of which are fun. I have that game also and am nearly done and have just nearly had enough of the game at 95 hours, but will prolly put another 30 hours into it. The Witcher 3 though has no fetch quests to fill it up. Everything to do in the game will feel like it has a real purpose and should be a lot of fun. Hopefully it will turn out that way, we’ll see. All I know is that if I’m reading a really good book, watching a really good movie (or tv series), or playing a really good game, I never want it to end. But it always does, no matter the length. I want games to be shorter that I’m not having a lot of fun playing, but not games I love.

The start and introduction of the game starts off there but that was when Ciri was a child, many years before.

But we will see how they do it. I doubt though that there will be a house for Geralt to set up camp. But we wont know until the game is out.

Steam collection comes later with through a Steam sale. Steam Sales are the only memories that Steam offers.

You shut up! I mean come on. How many people have 150 hours to finish a game? FF8 was bad enough maxing on 100%, by the time I got to the end you could have told me the story was about an emo buy with memory issues and I would have believed you! Wait…

My first playthrough on Skyrim was around that. If not more.
I made such a nice statement yesterday about appreciating these kinds of games. Stop complaining noob! ;P

Yeah but spending time in Skyrim because you are making 10000 fucking knives to up your smithing and following a story is different! Hear me!

Haha. I always found the leather armour to be the easier way actually. Leather is everywhere.
I will most likely sink around 150-200 hours into Witcher 3 on my first playthrough. But so far it seems not a lot of people are as interested in enjoying the magnitude of this game as I am.

Nah. Jokes. I am really looking forward to it. And if OvG carries on with his malaise with gaming I am set to get a cheap PS4 very soon 😉

Found this on the Pillars of Eternity GOG.com page. Thought Id share.

W A R N I N G This game DOES NOT include: – Quicktime events. – Climbing towers. – Poor writing. – Plastic drama. – Tacked-on multiplayer. – Social features. – Microtransactions. – Delusions of being an MMO. – Sesquipedalophobia. – Contempt for its own audience. – Scenes added for the trailer’s sake. – Hollywood envy. – Obsessive excessism. – “Press X for Awesome!” – Skyrim’s approach to map markers. – Ubisoft’s approach to optimization. – Game-breaking DRM. – Spyware. – Malware. – Mass Effect 3’s ending (or so I hope).
If you’re like me, that’s a good thing.

Playing the Wither 2 on Dark mode was insane so im playing this one on hard. Interested to see if you can carry over your saves from the second one, or will it be like the DA keep.

If you’re playing on PC it imports your save, don’t know how it works on console.

They didn’t mention who but my guess, Dandelion will sing the tails of Geralt at the start of the game. So you just choose which paths you took on the previous games. This will also help those who wants to “import” something different than their play through.

DA Keep needed internet to work. The Witcher 3 is a offline game, never to need the internet unless you choose to use the internet for like say download DLC.

Same principle though do you want to import your path yes then you elect to connect if not then default state. We will just have to wait and see.

Not too sure about how Keep works but from my understanding it didn’t need to be online on some server. It should have been part of the game.
The Witcher 3’s import system is part of the game and will never ask you to connect to the internet.

@disqus_3ihQj32EWp:disqus, The main Story isn’t 150 hours long. In Various interviews,
CDPR has stated that the main Quest is about 50-60 hours long. The rest of the
time is probably relegated to side activities and hunts that are not necessarily
    sidequests.

So All y’all complainin’ about it being so long, read more than one article… you filthy peasants… 😛

Yes, Yes!! Release the raging monster! I also believe that almost every developer would even exaggerate the normal 50 – 60 hour storymode….

They have been saying if you just focus on the main quests, 50 hours. But if you focus on the main missions and still just fuck around in the game like we will be doing, 150 hours maybe. It’s called exploring the map. Or we could just run to the main mission points and not really get to seeing the whole damn map, 50 hours.

So 50 – 60 hours main quests, 50 hours side quests, what accounts for the other 90 hours? riding your fucking horse?

If a total of 200 hours of gameplay is being outlined for this game, with all of the fighting random creatures, losing yourself in the scenery, it means that you’ll be spending about 8 full days in the game world….

I am definitely buying The Witcher 3, but I know, if it really is 200 hours long, I am never going to finish it. I am fed up with a game once I get to 40 hours or so. I haven’t finished Shadow of Mordor – it got repetitive and boring. Far Cry 3 and 4 I only finished the things that awarded achievements – the rest are still not finished. Especially 4. Too much of the same crap
