The Witcher 3 patched on PC again, console still waiting

The Witcher 3 has only been out for a week, and already CD Projekt Red has pushed out numerous patches to help alleviate some (honestly) small launch woes. PC gamers got a nice little performance improvement last week Friday with a weekend ready patch, and yesterday yet another surprise improvement hit servers. Console players, however, are still stuck.

First things first though, the new 1.04 for The Witcher 3 on PC is actually rather important. The patch increases texture rendering quality – improving textures throughout the game from the blades of grass to the extremely detailed curves of your armour set. The patch also addresses some key binding issue, Hairworks performance (which is still brutally taxing) and resolutions lower than HD.

You can check out the full patch notes below:

  • Rebinding of all keys is now available after switching on the ‘Unlock Bindings’ option in the Options\Key Bindings submenu.
  • Corrects an issue in the dialogue system that might have caused dialogue looping in certain scenes.
  • Fixes an issue with incorrect behavior of Wild Hunt warriors after they were affected by the Axii Sign.
  • Corrects a bug that caused spontaneous combustion of gas clouds.
  • 1280 x 720 resolution is now properly displayed as a valid resolution option.
  • Fixes boat stuttering in cutscenes.
  • Texture rendering quality for the high and ultra presets has been improved.
  • Further improvements made in Nvidia Hairworks performance.
  • A few additional gwent cards are now available in the Prologue area.
  • Fixes an issue where users with usernames incorporating non-Latin characters were unable to import saves from The Witcher 2.
  • Includes a series of overall stability and performance improvements.
  • Fixes issues related to alt + tabbing and minimizing the game window.
  • Updates the game icon.
  • Enlarges the loot pop-up window in the UI.
  • Fixes an issue where, in certain circumstances, the comparison window could extend beyond the game borders in the UI.
  • Upgrading items included in gear sets no longer destroys rune sockets on said items.
  • Introduces small tweaks in the UI for gwent.
  • Corrects some missing translations in localized versions.

So while PC is getting an increasing amount of love, The Witcher 3 on console is still waiting in the wings. It’s not as if performance is any better too – the PS4 version of the game that I got to review suffers from terrible framerate drops in certain areas, for example. CD Projekt Red already promised last week that a patch was on the way, citing certification processes for the delay.

So hopefully, hopefully, there’ll be something before the end of the week. Because honestly, this is a stunning game that doesn’t need to be brought own by minor performance issues like this.

done it. Made 10K in a few minutes and never had to do it again. 10K seems enough.

Luckily I haven’t had any performance problems with the game since day one. But I’m one of the lucky ones.
Went to a barber for the first time in-game last night. Didn’t have the beard shaved though.
There are two key rules in the Witcher 3…Save often, shave never.

I got owned at a Necker nest last night. Killed the ones outside easily enough, but got mobbed when I went down into the cave. The fact I’m level 4 & they’re level 6 might’ve had something to do with it.

Hehehe, I’ve just hit Level 15, and at some point during the weekend I passed this one little town, opening up the sign post for fast travel, forgot about the place being infested with ghouls…. Fast travelled to there and surprise, surprise, level 23 ghouls…I managed to slay them…just barely…but I did… Oh, and watch out for the Earth elemental…gave up on trying to beat it around the 12th or 13th time….

I haven’t actually had that happen to met yet. Knowing me though, even after your warning, it will still probably happen to me sometime.

Wraiths are easy though. They’re not as relentless as those damn Nekkers. And numbers make ALL the difference in W3

I saw 3x drowners in a river, decided to try my luck, they had a 11 and a skull next to their name, so I decided against it. One, I’d try, but 3x is too much…for now

You haven’t encountered any question marks yet hey? if you do, the simple solution is run, just run….

            May 26, 2015 at 10:13

ran across a ?? earth elemental yesteraday, didnt even bother trying.

Hehehe, that currently defines my way of playing, approach with caution, do I see a number? No, ok, let’s get closer, still no number? ok Question mark, what does tha…Bleargh…loading screen, ok, avoid that area until a later stage….

            May 26, 2015 at 09:18

I do exactly the same thing. See a question mark….MUST get it!
And then once I ended up finding a ridiculous monster (will omit the name for spoiler’s sake) and I had to run like a little pansy.

          • Greylingad[CNFRMD]

            May 26, 2015 at 09:20

HAHAHAHA!!! That’s exactly what happens to me!! Goodness gracious!! I ran to this one little question mark thinking “Woohoo! Monster and treasure hunt!” got there and it was “Run for your life the [??HEALTHBAR] monster is upon us!!!”

            May 26, 2015 at 09:23

Haha. Worst is when I’ve been running for really long. I come across a beast from hell and it kill me with one shot.
AND THEN I REALISE I HAVEN’T SAVED IN AGES.

O nice , I have a lvl 37 , so still way off before I craft that one, my Witcher is only level 14 now but from mid level 11 to 14 I barely had to use a sword , tonight I will be spending on witcher contracts , I need some violence 😛

          • Greylingad[CNFRMD]

            May 26, 2015 at 09:17

That’s what’s so awesome about it, I spent a hell of a lot of time this weekend, just chatting to people and levelling up that way, but some of those witcher contracts are stupendously good! But those signs….If you can, invest a few points into the second Yrden sign…that alternative sign is a lifesaver! especially if you want to clear a few monster nests, just beware, it takes a few moments to throw the trap…

            May 26, 2015 at 09:19

Don’t worry already done, that sign was the only way to put Jenny to rest.

            May 26, 2015 at 09:23

Yes!! Awesome!! Don’t worry though, there are many uses for that sign, I have to say though that Igni alternative is impressive, managed to do away with quite a few bandits without even swishing a sword, though they have to be a level or so below the current one…

Nice , I think I might go looking for some extra place of power , before heading into a mission again so that i can try that.

          • Greylingad[CNFRMD]

            May 26, 2015 at 09:45

Those places of power really make a big difference, even if it’s only one skill point, it helps!

Yeah the console version needs a bit of love, but even still I’m loving the game so much. My only issue is trying to juggle Destiny: House of Wolves and Witcher at the moment
