The Witcher 3 will be released in South Africa

As you know, CD Projekt Red’s next chapter in the fantastic Witcher series has been delayed to 2015. What you probably don’t know is that it might not have been released here in South Africa at all. That however, has changed.

The reason is that the game’s publishing has been up in the air. Namco is publishing the game in Europe, Warner is doing publishing duties in North America and none of our local distributors had the rights to the game. A secret, underground, fight-club styled bidding war has been going on to make it happen. Probably.

Games purveyor Megarom, however, has announced that it’ll be distributing the game in SA, through a deal done directly with CD Projekt RED.

Jason Borea, Marketing Director said of the deal:

“Being huge fans of the Witcher franchise, we are ecstatic to be dealing with CD Projekt RED, the company who shows so much passion in the games they develop and for the gamers that play them. We are proud to be granted the opportunity to bring a game of the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s calibre to South African shores.”

CD Projekt Red is pretty happy too.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Megarom Interactive, as we believe that their understanding of the market and a genuine connection with gamers from the region is something that will secure The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s success”, said Micha? Nowakowski, SVP of Business Development, CD Projekt RED.

Thankfully, you’ll be slaying foul beasties as the white-haired Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt on your new-gen platform of choice when the game is released in February next year.

Of course, PC gamers needn’t have worried – the game is 100% DRM free.

"I’d like to say it loud and clear: The PC version of The Witcher 3 will have absolutely no DRM from day 0. Zero. Zip. Nada. It doesn’t matter if you choose to buy it on GOG.com and support us directly or buy the game in box format, you’ll still get the 100% DRM-free experience. And this goes for the whole world," CD Projekt RED said in one of its open letters.

Two words. Steam and Cheeseburger. Who cares about Megarom when Steam will bring it to us!

OH crap. Forgot I wanted a Collectors Edition. Never mind.

I have one reason… Steam is more expensive on new releases.

Watch Dogs is $59 currently. That’s R624.52. PC Pre-order is R525 (BT Games) but I need to drive to get it and since fuel is so expensive it might as well be R625. Then again That R100 is more than what I have saved in gaming since the advent of steam sales.

        But that is just me.

Dude, BT is Useless…. just preorder from Kalahari. Cheaper than BT and this great thing called Free Delivery 😛

Oh Hell no! I prefer my games to arrive on time and not 4 days late. I would rather buy from Origin than from them.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve “saved” a bunch with Steam sales… but my closest BT is about 5km from me… Kalahari and Takealot deliver… there’s no way I’m paying Steam prices on new releases with those aspects in mind.

I’m in Jo’burg, so don’t have that option… Free delivery is my way of getting my new releases… Steam sales is for the older games, and Xbox live is for those games no one has heard of or care about anymore because they’re that ancient 😛

And before that the KLF were the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu…apparently back in ’87 (he says in his best Nam voiceover) they recorded an album and then trashed ALL copies bar 5 of them.

The LPs (lookitup for those of you too young to know) now sell for a pretty penny!

Great song…even have it on my iTunes library.
