The Witcher 3’s new game plus mode is out

But only on Xbox One so far! The much awaited last bit of free DLC for CD Projekt RED’s lauded RPG is out now on Microsoft’s platform, heralding the imminent release of the eagerly-anticipated New Game Plus Mode, giving demon hunters and monster slayers a second crack at taming the beasts of the Northern Kingdoms.

There’s absolutely no sign of it yet on the PSN or on PC through Steam or GoG’s Galaxy – but with it out on one platform already, it’s likely to come at some point today. For those of you still wondering what does or doesn’t carry through in a new run of the game, here’s a quick overview from Reddit:

Will _________ item or item type carry over?

  • Equipment in inventory (weapons, armor including Witcher Gear)? – YES
  • Items in Stash? – Unknown but we assume the more general rules that apply to inventory also apply to stash.
  • Crafted alchemy items – YES
  • Consumables (food, drink) – NO
  • Alchemy crafting components in inventory – YES
  • Recipes/Schematics you have already found – YES
  • Book and letters – NO
  • Monster Trophies – NO
  • Quest Items – NO (these are things like Kiera’s Lamp)
  • Money – YES
  • Gwent Cards – NO

Yes, that collection of Gwent cards you’ve assembled over your 100 (or more!) hours of the game are gone, meaning you’ll have to collect them all again. That makes sense, I suppose, given that many of the game’s Gwent cards are quest related, and that earning cards is the entire impetus behind playing that waste of time, terrible card game in the first place.

The base level for NG+, it seems is 30 – so if you’re not there yet, you’ll be pushed up to that level and given a “do over” potion to reset your stats. Those of you who’ve over-levelled will start at whatever level you’re on.

Are you ready to play through the Witcher 3 again?

    Meh.
The game is so immense, by the time you’re finished you take a break, play some other games and then if you feel like a replay just do it over again.

Yeah, but is has been nearly two years and Skyrim has still not got the replay I promised it. I am still burnt out.

I tried that the other day… Let’s just say it’s not happening anymore… One playthrough of skyrim is more than enough for me…

Exactly. One playthrough is enough for me as well. The story is way too long and gets uninteresting midway through, same with the combat which is very repetitive and doesn’t require any kind of strategy. You get burnt out easily.

I’m still freaking playing it. Not gonna lie..it’s getting tedious. I’m starting to skip all contracts and side quest and only concentrating on the main quest. I’m back at Kaer Morhen doing some ritual (deliberately being vague as to not give spoilers), is this far from the end?

Yeah you’re still far from the end…. maybe 60% But the game is not designed to do every side quest or contract.
You just end up being very over leveled. So go ahead, just do the main story. You get most xp from them anyway.

Yeah, I would definitely shy away from doing *everything*. The game’s not designed to be played that way.

You’re totally screwing yourself by not doing those side missions… Most of them have more story then the entire Destiny game.

I wouldn’t say the game go tedious for me. But I did get to a point where i just couldn’t wait to get to the end to see how the story ends.

Now am replaying the game and can do everything without that need to see how it ends. Plus I have to get a good ending after that bad ending I got because of rushing.

lol I’m pretty much at that point. Must say last night it got quite intense again at Kaer Morhen and it has me excited to see what happens next! But yeah I also want to see how it ends.

About 2/3. What level are you? I finished the game on 34 and were massively overpowered at the end

I’m on 25 at the moment. I don’t know why they don’t make the main quest level up with you. It seems obvious, but why isn’t it done?

Go for the end game, you are high enough, I think the final missions are level 30. I agree some sort of leveling would have been nice, I had to do quite a few main quests with no xp reward.

That’s my plan now! I want to still have a challenge with the final bosses. Same here, got some 2xp points for a main quest yesterday. Cashing in the big bucks.

curious about how theyr gong to scale the armour in NG+ though, i already have mastercrafted everything.
although with the storage option you have now, i may just give ursine and griffin armour a go now.

Does the witcher 3 need a new game plus mode. Well to get the highest level and test out different builds. But by the time you get to the end of the game, you are already overpowered and it kinda gets boring just killing enemies and monsters easily, well unless you playing as Ciri.

I have read people saying they won’t play the witcher 3 again if there is not a new game plus mode. I don’t understand that type of logic. To me finding and playing a good game or just a game I really enjoy playing, I tend to reply it over and over again for years.
I’m still playing Sim City 4, Theme Hospital, GTA 3, Max Payne, god this list can go on and on. I still need to get Bioshock 1 and Gears of War 1 again to replay yet again.

I have replayed these games and others so many fucking times and I’m not done playing them. So I can’t understand how people can play a good game and not play it ever again unless it has, for example, a new game plus mode. New game plus mode I guess means one continuous progress even if you playing through the story again.
Just because yet another stupid shitty game is being released by yet another stupid shitty publisher, doesn’t mean you stop playing the good games from the past.

I see myself still playing The WItcher 3 over and over again for years to come.
God I’m still going to be playing Theme Hospital when I’m old.

Don’t Support DRM. Cyberpunk 2077 is coming. It should be good. Witcher 3 meets guns.

imo, any game system that has a levelling system that you cant max out in a single run through, needs a NG+ mode.
witcher 3 especially, i think requires too much investment in the actual combat and spellcasting trees, it makes stuff like potions irrelevant.
however, i dont think the UI is viable for effective potion use either, geralt needs more active inventory slots to make potions viable. having to constantly go back and forth into your inventory is a massive grind.
i understand that they want you to prepare befor fights, but adding 2 more active slots for inventory items wouldnt take away from that.

oh yes I forgot to mention, THe Witcher 3 needs more skills to use at one time.
Skill slots is needed more. Both would have been nice. Starting a fresh game on the hardest mode and starting new game plus with harder enemies and monsters, might just be the same damn thing. More skill slots for a really op build might be worth it. But as it stands new game plus is not really worth it. Starting the game with cool sword swings….

more potion slots and more mutagen slots.
whats the point of levelling everything if you can only use 12 upgrades on 4 mutagen slots?

Oops, yes. I forget to level up. Must look at that. Maybe some of the fights will be easier, less dancing, more smashy. I think I have like 12 points on level 28 now.

I think that the devs should really allow all sorts of gamers to play this title in any way they see fit. Giving them this opportunity is just great. NG+ ftw.

Well, sort of like in Diablo 2, you got the Mad Cow Level as a bonus when replaying on the higher difficulty.

Growing up I played a lot of AD&D. Starting out a new char was ok, but playing a powerful character opened many, many more options. A level 20 mage vs a level 6 mage, can be a lot more fun, in a certain way.

It is simple. You enjoy that, other people, being different, enjoy replaying with more power at their fingertips. Nothing wrong with either way.

By the way, I play Master of Orion 2 and Civ V like that. Just over and over.

Seriously Gwent is not that bad of a “waste of time, terrible card game”.
Its actually pretty good game if you put in the time to get good at it.
Sure its not everyone’s cup of tea and would prefer swinging a sword but its not that horrible.
I for one am bummed that the cards wont carry over.

All the people I know who dislike Gwent are people who don’t have the foggiest idea how to play it. It’s super fun and provides a nice little five minute distraction from cleaving heads from shoulders. Plus you win money. So there is that. 😛

Gwent a terrible game? You must really suck at it. I love the game. My only complaint is that you can’t compete against other players online. Also a dlc with 200 more cards to win or so, would be amazing.
