The Witcher 3’s open world is gorgeous

The Witcher 3 Leshen

Of all the games coming in the next few months, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has to be the most anticipated. It is an enormous game and I know plenty of you are amped about continuing the story and killing all the things. However, the open world experience is built to be amazing.

Here is the developer diary all about making the open world:

For the non-video viewers, not only are we treated to some glorious images of the game, we also get insight into just how detailed the world is. There are various points of interest littered around the world, each one hand crafted and given its own lore. The major cities have unique inhabitants; they don’t just greet Geralt in their own way, they will have their own reactions to weather, Geralt drawing his sword or even ambient conversation where they gossip about his previous deeds. The day-night cycle changes monster spawning and the experience players might have in the game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt looks far too gorgeous, and the detail of the game is beyond impressive. I love the idea that each point of interest has its own lore, that each personality in a city is unique. It adds so much to the immersion in the game and makes it feel like a truly epic experience.

Have you already ordered your copy of the game? Are you grabbing it DRM-free through GoG.com or will you opt for a console or Steam version of it? Which aspect is looking the best to you?

No idea man, I think the idea is to have nothing to do with Steam eventually. I really want to pre order SoM now, but I’m so afraid I need to use some obscure client to run it. On BT Games’ website it says Steam OR Origin to activate…which can’t be true because Origin doesn’t have it on their store.

DRM-free on GOG, can just download the installer on release, don’t even need a client. Or else Steam as per usual.

            September 26, 2014 at 10:22

I’m talking about Shadow of Mordor. I found this on Amazon’s website. “DRM: Steam”
So if you buy physical it will need to be activated on Steam.

          • Ryanza

            September 26, 2014 at 10:24

Shadow of Mordor will use Steam. So physical copy will need to be activated through Steam.

          • Alien Emperor Trevor

            September 26, 2014 at 10:40

Oh okay, almost everything activates through Steam. Only advantage to buying physical is that you don’t have to download while installing.

And at this point it is cheaper. R419 at Kalahari vs $49.99 at Steam.

GOG Galaxy is just to distribute GOG.com games easier, to promote games better, update games and to play multiplayer games online. If you buy the game on Steam, Galaxy won’t need to run in the background. Multiplayer games bough on Steam will work with those playing it on Galaxy. I think that’s how Steam and Galaxy will work together.

You will need Galaxy to play your games. You won’t need Galaxy to update your games. You won’t need Galaxy to buy games. Galaxy will just be an option if you so choose.

          • Ryanza

            September 26, 2014 at 10:49

Yes to achievements. I think you might need Galaxy running while playing a game to get achievements.

          • Ryanza

            September 27, 2014 at 15:29

you will not need Galaxy to play your games. I can’t be making mistakes like that when it concerns No DRM.

I only click now. I watched this trailer long before I read the book. The lines Geralt speaks in the trailer is from a story in the book (The Last Wish) called, The Lesser Evil. A cool short story about how Geralt became known as the Butcher of Blaviken.

Evil is evil, said the witcher seriously as he got up. Lesser, greater, middling, it’s all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I’m not a pious hermit. I haven’t done only good in my life. But if I’m to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all.

If you have not read the books. Get em. You can get em from most of the online retailers like, Takealot, Kalahari, Loot, Raru. Read the books to get your Witcher fill till the game is released.

Bah. All that trouble to make a mature narrative on Par with Game of Thrones and it will not make anything near DESTINYs profit.

They should have just got the writers for TETRIS and spent $400 million on advertising in Times Square because according to gamers that is what they want.

CD Projekt RED is a small developing studio. When The Witcher 3 sells more than 1 million units it means much more than Destiny selling 1 million.

The Witcher games has over 8 million sold. So The Witcher 3 could sell really well from get go.

I hope there is a comic style back story (even that would beat Destinys lore)
because most 360 owners never played the first game and I still have no clue who Yennefer is. All I know is that he was stabbed by a farm boy with a pitch fork.

    100+ hours gameplay.
    Alternative endings.
    Story and lore.
    Decisions and outcomes.
    World settings, art, graphics.
    Swords and magic.
    80+ Monsters.
    Lots of armor sets.
    Music.
    No DRM.
No exclusive in game items or missions.
    Value added in retail products.
    Replayability.
You can buy the game to test it out to see if you might like it and if you don’t like it, you can sell it. Really important feature.

The Witcher 3 will be a good game. Might even be epic.

Support Non DRM games. The Witcher 3 is coming. Make sure that you get everyone you know who plays games to buy The Witcher 3.

The Witcher games is all about the story of Geralt and the world that he is in. So The Witcher 3 will be single player only.

So it sounds like 2 copies of The Witcher 3 for you or someone will be sitting on the couch and enjoying the story while someone else plays.

I’m all for old school single player only games with great story telling. But sometimes the option to allow for a 2nd co-op player to jump in and play through with you is a great add to the game or at least to have that option. I’ve played through God of War 3, XCOM and Prince of Persia with my wife but again its always passing the controller back and forth which becomes stale after awhile.

I will be getting the DRM free PC version collectors edition. And I still want to preorder the game on GOG.com. Steam version = DRM, so boo.

If you are getting the standard edition PC or console copies, you should also get the GOG.com version. GOG.com version is like having the collectors edition in digital form without the high price and a extra game included. Getting the GOG.com version means more of the money gets to the studio, meaning Cyberpunk 2077 and other CD Projekt RED games.

Support NON-DRM games. The Witcher 3 is coming.

If I recall the 7970GHz (R9 280X) did The Witcher 2 on ultra setting with all settings turned on, AA and ubersampling, and got around 38fps. Ubersampling liked cuts frames in half.

So the R9 280X should handle The Witcher 3 better than medium settings.
