The worst part of Bloodborne is finally being patched

I’ve owned every single Souls game that From Software has delightfully created – and I ended up despising every single one. Not because they’re bad games, but rather because I just didn’t get them. It made me reluctant to pick up Bloodborne, especially since it meant getting a PS4 too, but there hasn’t been a second where I’ve regretted that purchase. That’s not counting the 30 or so seconds of anguish after each and every death though.

Bloodborne is a stellar, gruelling experience, and one that teaches you through death. That’s a perfectly punishing mechanic on its own, but having to wait more than half a minute to go again is…testing. From Software knew this from the day the game launched, and they’re closer than ever to fixing it. The highly anticipated patch for load times should be out before the month end, and it’s fixing a lot lot of other stuff too.

Performance is also getting a right kick in the rear, although From was a little less descriptive on this part of the patch. Bloodborne isn’t a technical mess, but there are some instance where the framerate takes a dive if too much is happening on screen. That just makes a fight against five werewolves even more unfair then it already was.

And if you’ve been cheesing through some of the bosses with the “12 hour” trick, you better start learning how to dodge properly really fast. The patch will address the abnormal behaviour enemies exhibit when the console is put into rest mode for far too long, leading to bosses not initiating their full repertoire of attacks. It’s a cheap and underhanded way to blaze through the game, although waiting over 12 hours for something does prove some sort of dedication.

The patch has no final date, but with just over two weeks left in the month (I know, right?) you can expect it pretty soon. As for me, I’m still trying to reach that darned Vicar.

The bosses are hard (except for Micolash, what a douche) but not as hard as previous games in my opinion. Mostly because you can stun and and use visceral attacks. Especially with Gehrman so I really dont see why people would need to do that 12 hour trick.

Also I had three umbilical cords but I never used them so I never thought the final boss either. Sure I can NG+ but Ive got a backlog of other games I’m not getting to as is.

Well thats the appeal, the mystery of exploration and discovery, which is why one should never just push through the game to the end, but I feel you though. You probably missed Cainhurst then where you fight Logarius, part of Alfred’s quest. You meet Queen Vileblood as well 🙁 Suck man.

Don’t you find it frustrating when you buy a game you don’t want to trade in though? That next purchase hurts.

          • Ryanza

            April 15, 2015 at 10:01

That’s the name of the game. Finding that game you don’t want to sell.

I hope The Witcher 3 is a game that you guys won’t sell. I hope it’s good enough for you guys to own and play for the rest of your lives.

Let me tell you something about the old days. The Witcher 3, there was no other game like it, with it’s stories and Triss Merigold. I regretted selling that game so quickly after playing it.

            Don’t be that guy.

          • Pariah

            April 15, 2015 at 10:02

I actually did that with the Mass Effect games, and later regretted it. Got them on PC now though (for less than what I paid just for the first game on console), so it all worked out.

            April 15, 2015 at 10:04

I regret not buying Bioshock 1 for PC. Had the console game. But I always wanted the PC version retail box not digital.

I do enjoy the 5 seconds digital saves me , so that I don’t have to switch disks, but doubt if I will get any more digital copies unless they are on special.
Once I have played through the game , I hardly ever go back for a second round , achievement/trophy chasing isn’t for me anymore, and with retail I can trade.

          • Ryanza

            April 15, 2015 at 10:39

PC or PS4? Both I would say. Trade in PS4 version and keep PC version for a special day.

          • Ir0nseraph

            April 15, 2015 at 10:41

Wouldn’t it just be better waiting for a Steam special on PC ? , keeping a game around seems pointless if you won’t play it.

          • Ryanza

            April 15, 2015 at 10:43

There are just times when you need a good DRM-free retail game.

You don’t have to justify yourself. The option is there. Use it if you so choose. Choice is a really important option to have.

            Don’t Support DRM.

Im not very far, just got to Byrgenwerth, but yeah I agree bosses arent too bad compared to the other games. Vicar gave me the most trouble, many deaths there, otherwise 3 – 4 tries on the others and they were down. Witch of hemwick i downed first try, might have just been luck though haha.
      Loving the game though.
I would never do the 12 hour trick though, would make it a cheap victory when you finish the game.

Nope, beat blood pallet. They basically cater towards beast transformation but they also up your attack power with every blow. There is a point where ROM curls up and becomes invisible almost at that point if you land 1000 damage to him he gets stunned then you can basically unleash hell on him for a bit lol. Beast blood pallets are awesome. Never forget about these items. Whenever you fight beasts also always use fire and that pugnent blood item to distract them 🙂
