The Xbox 360 Fall Update has arrived

So it is finally upon us, at 12h27 my console popped up a message saying “A console update is required.” Now thanks to this update I can finally view all those DivX & .avi videos I have hauled up on my PC.

The dashboard didn’t really get a change look, but it did get some revisions. For example your friend list icons start off small but when you highlight them, it grows larger and shows their motto underneath their tag. When you select a friend or recent player you can see their friend list or bio by just tapping right.

The market place blade has gotten an overhaul, it looks a lot slicker, with 4 sections, which I would imagine have subsections. Those sections are Spotlight, New Arrivals, Game Store and Video Store, and guess what? The game store has the promised Xbox originals. The current list is: Halo, Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, Fusion Frenzy, Indigo Prophecy and my most anticipated one Fable.

The Xbox Live blade now has an Inside Xbox feature, which gives you updates on what is happening in Redmond. Your friends list and message list are now merged into a single selectable object, with chat & IM remaining as is. The games blade is now modified to say Games Library, Achievements & Played Games.

The media blade remains the same, but just includes one more selectable object, Video Store. When you push your Guide button, the response feels a lot quicker. The gamertags of other people no longer include their country they have selected just their mottos.

The promised Parental Timer is available under your personal settings when you push your guide button.

So many old XBOX games that i want… but where to find the bandwidth and hard drive space. XennoX… how big are the downloads ?

I’m definitely picking up Indigo Prophecy, Fable and Psychonauts at some point. (Probably Psychonauts first)

yeah I got the same message – connected via UK address and everything. Demo’s and arcade downloaded fine so maybe PAL roll out delayed – or the servers just crashed from all the downloads. Oh and bad news Milesh most of the downloads are over 2 GB with Fable coming in at a hefty 3.2 Gigs

What a snag… there’s no work around for that 🙁
Well, you can get a bit tricky like trying a web proxy with ICS (which I’ve read up is illegal)
How about obtaining a UK dialup account, dialup and begin the download and then disconnect. Connect with your normal broadband connection and then see if the download continues? – Guess this might be illegal too…
Gosh, if only there was a definate way around this.
Marketplace update: Next week in Video Store, 7de Laan!!!

** boredhosewife, it’s nothing to do with the format, but rather legalities from the 3rd party that MS has to abide to when publishing software/video’s, etc, etc.

Can’t wait to get home to download this update!!!

the thing is, i have the bandwidth… but only for this month. I just got my DSL line, but my iBurst account is still active for the month. That’s 3.5GB available.

    DAMMIT! Why are we blocked???

(anyone tried one of the other games?)

Maybe it is just a roll out error or something, I hope.
Or maybe it could be worse, has any tried to download an Arcade game yet? I have a bad feeling.

Actually now that I think about, the originals is not such a big deal for me. I mean being able to download them if I wanted would have been nice but considering they cost 1200msp(R150?) then your need to buy the bandwidth for them.
For fable that is like a 3gig account all by itself. Then you can only use it on your console or gamertag. I would rather just track down the original discs.

lots of us are on Telkom Internet where you have the shared bandwidth thing making the dl size possible and the purchase no different from buying an arcade game.
