The Xbox One is still ‘all about gaming’

Where's the game?

We all know the memes by now. If the Xbox One is about one thing, it’s TV. And sports. Two things! TV, sports and Call of Duty and nice shiny red uniforms! Dammit, four things! It seems that gaming has taken a backseat this year, with TV clearly dominating. But MS fella Phil Spencer isn’t worried. Because you’ll buy the console anyway. And still get games. And sports.

"We believe that if all you want is gaming, you’ll still pick us, at the end of the day," Spencer said to OXM.

The super core guys, they will buy everything. They will buy all devices, but most people really only do buy one device, and if you’re going to think about what that one device is, we believe an all-in-one system that does the best games and TV and entertainment will be something that’s really unique.

I don’t have a problem with all-in-one, but when a gaming console pushes some pretty new nifty technology for television features over the use in gaming itself, I get worried about the focus of this console. "We’re going to continue to innovate, continue to add new experiences, and make it better every single year," Spencer then explained.

Right now we’re eight years into this platform — we didn’t have a single music video [at launch], we didn’t have any entertainment, and now we’re seeing half our usage globally driven from entertainment apps. And so we think the story will evolve and continue to get better over time.

I’m still unconvinced at this stage. I want to like the Xbox One, I really do, but Microsoft needs to learn from their current PR nightmare and put on a strong show at E3 if it wants to regain any sympathy from gamers. And calling gamers who want better as backwards, really doesn’t help them out in the long run.

Then again, they may have a point, judging by the insane amount of pre-orders that the console has already netted itself.

WE KNOW IT PLAYS FUCKING GAMES!!! (Shakes fist at stupid Microsoft Fat Cats)
It is the forced shit that makes your product stink like SHIT.

Like buying a classic car, but you are only allowed to drive it out the store if it has a HUGE FUCK OFF MODERN SPOILER ON THE ROOF.

Let alone the fact that the car will self destruct if does not clock 60 miles every 24hours. Or the fact that we can ONLY use YOUR gas stations and you own the second set of keys.

FUCK OFF MICROSOFT… It plays games lol

THe other thing very few people mention is that Xbone lacks DVR functionality or the support of existing DVR systems. Without DVR even the TV implementation is a bit half ass.

“we didn’t have a single music video [at launch], we didn’t have any entertainment, and now we’re seeing half our usage globally driven from entertainment apps”

By that logic, the next next generation (Xbox Two?) will only be entertainment apps and no games at all..

Ever wonder if MS might have gotten the misconception by seeing people use the xbox for watching netflix and other social events more than play games? Might be what’s driving these silly decisions.

Just a thought, use it, don’t use it.

They can say what they want, I trust Microsoft as far as I can throw them, isn’t it ironic that NOW all of a sudden they change their story. Stay away from me Microhard, I mean Microsoft.

I read an article this morning on gamespot that Microsoft see that they might sell 1 Billion Units of the xbox one because of the tv integration. They feel the market is open to them. WOW One Billion Units

If Lazygamer does not mind here is the link to the gamespot article:

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/microsoft-investing-1-billion-into-xbox-one-games-6408992

Now that is arrogant. 50 Million will know what the xbox one is, the other 950 Million will say xbox what?

Please stop copying and pasting articles and adding snarly remarks before you check the source!(It’s actually very easy with links and all). The source clearly states 1billion COMBINED, both X1 & PS4 sales! btw, $1billion towards game development mentioned in the same article not impressive enough for you to mention?

Anyone that has been on Lazygamer for the past 3 years or so will remember my “Xbox defender” days, when the whole RROD thing happened having returned 3 consoles myself I was unswayed I pointed to the fact that M$ just spent a Billion to address the problem. Then there was the whole Xbox exclusives vs PS3 exclusives debate after Uncharted 2 came out, boy did we go at it ol Banana Jim ( Bobby Kothick at the time) and a couple of other guys that I don’t see here anymore sadly will tell you. After that it was the DVD thing about Xbox games coming on multiple discs which was a losing argument on my part but I still held the line, then something happened… I still remember it so clearly the event that changed Xbox gaming… I popped in my NAG DVD and there was a trailer for something called Natal at the time, a typical American kid standing in front of his console and uttering “Xbox on” and then ” Xbox play” and then he proceeded to play some kinda Kung Fu game with no controller I was like “whoa” (Neo voice) and then Peter came on and showed of the now infamous Milo and Kate demo,I though to myself this is going to change everything…Little did I know how right I was,it was all downhill from there. For one none of what was initially promised when Natal now Kinect was launched ever materialized, I still gave MS the benefit of the doubt, then Peter Moore left for EA along with most of the guys behind the 360 all of sudden the Xbox exclusive went from being titles like Mass Effect, Gears, Lost Odyssey, The Last Remnant, PGR and Dead or Alive 4 to Dance Central, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Star wars and a whole bunch of Kinect and Xbox arcade mini games. Then everytime I updated my xbox there was a new window with shit like youtube and facebook things that had nothing to do with me gaming or didn’t even work in SA then they started saying shit like ” We have more exclusives than any other console.” during a year that they only released 3 ( halo, forza and gears) that I cared about anyway the rest a whole bunch of Kinect and arcade crap.Every E3 after 2010 became the same casual shit and social services and no new games just Call of Duty DLC and Gears or Halo. Over the last 10 years all the people who pushed the Xbox as a gaming system have all left MS from Seamus Blackely the creator to the more dubious likes of Peter Molyneux. I can’t remember the last time I bought Something for Xbox and went wow, that was not on the PS3. Even when The Witcher 2 came out exclusively on the Xbox MS didn’t pick it up and try and push it as an exclusive like they would have in the early days of the 360 as a result game’s sales suffered. So when they talk about spending a Billion on games and having 15 exclusives the first year I ask you this: when last did you see a ” ONLY XBOX 360″ or “ONLY ON XBOX 360 & WINDOWS” tag on an Xbox 360 cover we’ve all become accustomed to the now fraudulent “BETTER WITH KINECT” stamp that is often associated with broken games. MS’s PR team are no strangers to giving false tongue and luring early adopters to their system only to forget about them a third way through their system’s life cycle. Why should I believe or trust anything they have to say now? I still love my 360 but sadly not for what it is now but what it used to be…

hear hear. They do not need us anymore. The did 10 years ago. But we gave them enough money to move on and follow the Wii to GREEDVILLE.
Time we stopped fixing shit that is not broken and give up the race. Stay here now with great off-line gaming and a huge huge library. Do not forget that they will still plug the 360 for another 7 years to pay for the ONE as all new consoles only start breaking even 3-4 years after release.

The 360 is in for some good times.

Yeah with all the talk of DRM and what not, chances are SA is going to be like a time capsule. I was talking to an employee from BT Games in Cresta and his sentiments where more or less the same, I just wonder how our local retailers will factor into this whole thing typically BT Games would be the first to market and take pre- orders for any new consoles coming out offering trade in deals etc for early adopters but I don’t see them doing that for consoles that deliberately want to hurt their business.

      Very well put man.

I feel the same way, Lately i end up buying games and seldom finishing them as eagerly as I once did. It feels like there are so few special titles out these days… Last games that i really enjoyed and felt like a kid again was Farcry 3. lol Kinect has its cool features dont get me wrong but alot of crap too. They could of made awesome games using kinect but instead made dance and weightloss crap instead. Hopefully we see some amazing games at E3 on ps4 and hopefully no DRM crap and be like good old days, pop it in and play, go online IF you want to. Thats my 5 cents….

I loved Far Cry 3, I am not a completion but Far Cry 3 was just one of those games that I had to complete the world its was in is just too awesome. The endings left me a bit unfulfilled though.

Silly question. When you put these consoles next to one another and let them play the same game.
Will there be a clear winner? Let’s talk GAMES then.

SONY let their comp use their super drive.

You know there is never a clear winner as they are all in bed with each other.

Hell I cant believe the SONY fanboys have not spent the last week gloating about winning the DVD war.

I officially stopped caring about what the xbox one does. I officially decided to break ties with ms concerning all future purchases (pc,phone, tablet, xbox). They want to control too much, and I can’t take it anymore.
