The Xbox One will ban your dirty mouth

The latest batch of gaming consoles are more than just platforms with which to frag your friends. They’re also devices that allow you to communicate with your pals, via services such as Skype and in-game chats. And on the Xbox One, you better watch what you say or you could find yourself staring down the ban-hammer.

Speaking to TechCrunch, a Microsoft representative gave a statement which read as follows, following news that swearing on Skype and Upload Studio could get your ass banned, you dirty barstools you:

To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls. Also, we take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users. Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live. We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members.

Well, at least that solves the COD issue of people making genitalia remarks about my character. I’ll miss playing games with Geoff. Still, it’s a rather harsh ban, considering that the Xbox One will be home to various games which feature enough profanity and gore to make a sailor blush.

On one of the older C&C’s you can’t even write Nazi or Hitler without being censored.

Oddly enough my language online is a lot better than my language in person. Over voice coms I don’t swear anywhere near as much as I would in person. I’d rather say F@#$ YOU to your face, with added hand gestures for good measure.

Same. If I’m playing with some randoms, my language is usually decent.
When I’m in a party chat with friends, well, that would indeed make a sailor blush…especially in a tense Halo match o_O

I can picture it now, you are playing some random space sim and you tell your friend “Dude, I just saw a planet that looks like Uranus” and then…

“This console has been banned for violations of the Terms of Use. To protect the Xbox Live service and its members, Microsoft does not provide details about console bans. There is no recourse for Terms of Use violations.”

They don’t monitor in game or Skype communications. But making a dumb ass video and swearing at everyone’s mom will get your ass banned from Live and you need Live for Skype! A good thing!

I really don’t get why microsoft would hide skype behind a paywall. Utterly brain-dead if you ask me.

It’s not though, because people keep paying for it. Can’t blame companies for wanting to make as much money as possible, but you can certainly blame the people who help encourage companies to do this.
