Then and now – Gears of War and other ramblings

Is it just me or are you also noticing that Gears 2 isn’t getting the same devotion as the original Gears? I am not talking purely about playtime here either, the popular opinion seems to be swaying slowly against Gears 2 and in my opinion it is entirely Epic’s fault.

The matchmaking in Gears 2 sucks and they are obviously to busy enjoying their Christmas bonuses to worry about fixing it. I have been off work for the past 2 weeks and have obviously wanted to put a lot of game time into Gears 2 but it just hasn’t materialised. Apparently waiting 10 minutes for a game and then having to repeat this task after every round isn’t actually fun… who would have guessed…

Anyway that isn’t why I am writing this, like it or not Gears 2 is the new flag bearer for the Xbox 360 and as such it will remain important. It has taken over from Gears 1 and a few people have been heard mumbling that it isn’t actually any better than Gears 1 graphically.

Well Gamespot has been kind enough to use their super screen scraping software (anyone want to donate some?) and have put together some great overlayed shots between Gears 1 and 2. I think you will find that Gears 2 has received a substantial upgrade and nothing is more noticeable than the much improved feminine figure in Gears 2, I never noticed how bad it looked in Gears 1…

Still shows how good Gears was though, some of those Screenies are still good looking, GoW1 that is. I got GoW2 for Xmas and it still hasn’t been put into the Xbox, I think it’s mainly cause I am still RPGing and the fact that my LCD TV is broken 🙁
