There’s a fix on the way for Xbox One’s slow controllers

XB1-Controller

When it comes to controllers, I’m incredibly bias towards the Xbox One input device. Sure, the PlayStation 4 controller has several bits and bobs that make it a tech-heavy powerhouse, but the Xbox One controller just feels right. It’s an evolution of the superb 360 controller, with the right enhancements dotted around it. One thing that the controller doesn’t do well however? Start up quickly. And that’s something that Microsoft plans to fix.

Right now, the controller takes an agonising 5 seconds to properly boot up, which is absolute torture for somebody like me who wants to play a game right now dammit. According to Major Nelson however, the latest controller firmware will fix that, and more:

Quick Connect – previous controller connections to an Xbox One took 4-5 seconds when powering on a controller, now they should occur in ~2 seconds

Stability improvements – the firmware also provides a number of fixes that address issues submitted by customers and preview participants

I’m on the preview system and will check it out soon enough. Or as soon as I’m done downloading the latest system update, which is a mind-boggling 2gb for some strange and mysterious reason. I’m also in need of a new controller, as I went into full monkey-rage mode one night when trying to fit my headset in, and wound up breaking the input jack, which also means that I can’t use my controller on a PC either. Hopefully, this firmware update will result in a Darryn-proof controller one of these days.

  1. WOW, shaving off 3 seconds before I can start playing? Now why don’t we rather focus on the important stuff like cross play pretty please???

Haha, he’s also on the preview program so the 2GB is something completely different. ????

Yup most probably something more than just the controllers. But have to try an troll some X-bonies (like a Brony, just a fan of XBones rather than ponies)

Well now they just need to fix the random controller disconnection(unless that is in the fix). That really pisses me off while I am playing. I agree with you Darryn the Xbone controller feels way better than the PS4 controller. still love both my consoles (PS4 is my baby).

At least they can fix controllers with firmware updates my PS4 controllers R2 button has now broken 3 times and two other people I game with I have the exact same problem, my PS4 is coming up to it’s warranty ending and I have no faith in Sony replacing anything after that date.

I have just seen this problem is happening a lot as it was recently featured on the UK consumer program Watchdog.

Don’t thinks so, a tech at Incredible Corruptions told me he just used a micro-usb cable and software from Microsoft’s web page and he was done.

So is the Xbox one controller for PC all ready out or can you just buy 1 and start looking for all the drivers and firmware for it on Windows?

The Xbox One controller works instantly with the PC wired, it doesn’t need to run any background programs.
