There’s a new Age Of Empires game on the way

AOE CS (7)

But it won’t be Age Of Empires 4. HEYOH! Instead, it’ll be a new mobile game dubbed Age Of Empires: Castle Siege that is less click click and more touchy touchy.

It’s all about getting in touch with your inner trebuchet, or more precisely, touch controls. Age Of Empires: Castle Siege will be available on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, with players able to choose from several civilizations and work their castle into a functioning city. That will be under attack. Here’s a list of the key features being touted by this Age Of Empires game:

AOE CS (1) AOE CS (2) AOE CS (3)

AOE CS (4) AOE CS (5) AOE CS (6)

Empire-Building for those on the go: From building your castle into an impressive city, accumulating your resources to keep your fortress and your lands safe, to training your armies to both defend and attack your enemies, Castle Siege is built for you to enjoy the expansiveness of an Age of Empires game with the speed and simplicity of touch-based gaming.

Built for Touch: Now all your strategizing, empire-building and sieging is controlled by the simple swipe of your finger. Drag paths on the touchscreen to command units directly in battle. Using this tactical control to counter your opponents’ defenses is crucial to victory.

Connect with your Xbox Live Friends: Forge alliances with your Xbox Live friends, compete against other alliances for prized ‘crown count’, and fight your way to the top of the leaderboards.

Recruit The Greatest Heroes: when times get tough, it’s time to call up heroes. From Richard the Lionheart to Charlemagne, Castle Siege will allow you to deploy them to turn the battle in your favour.

Cross-platform play only on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8: If you have multiple Windows 8 devices, no matter. Your game progress is always saved to your Gamertag. Furthermore, you can battle friends across platforms, so any Windows 8 PC, tablet or Windows Phone 8 can join the siege.

Several civilizations to choose from: Age of Empires: Castle Siege starts off with six civilizations from the Medieval Era, including Britons, Teutons and Kievan Rus. Each civilization has upwards of six unique “cultural units”, along with cavalry and trebuchets equipment.

Recreate Famous Historical Battles: play through 10 historical battles, including the Siege of Marienburg and the Fall of Constantinople.

I’m rather keen on this. Age Of Empires 2 will always be one the finest real-time strategy games ever made, and a new title that appears to condense the core castle-sige aspect of that classic game into a quick experience looks pretty decent. That, and trebuchets dammit. No gamer should ever go through life without building a squad of trebuchets and then letting hell fly forth with big rocks or in some cases when rocks are spare, fat disposable soldiers.

Another Dungeon keeper in the works. Can’t wait to see how much money you have to dish out for a single unit.

That’s what I’m thinking. The gaming industry (the big publishers specifically) disgust me these days. This is why I support people like Valve and indie companies.

Haha. No I think he knows the market well and a Half Life 3 just can’t be done now. People are way too critical and no matter what it ends up being, they won’t be happy.

That’s precisely why I’m not excited at the idea of a HL3. It’s got such much hype & expectation built around it that even if they release it & it’s good, people will rip it to shreds.

Me too. I’ve made peace with “what we have is all there will be”.
I’ve been too disappointed in sequels and such before, I’d rather not have one.

It would probably hurt less than what EA and Microsoft has done to the gaming community the past few years.

Again, yeah, just like Sony is doing with all the Vita games, they make money by other means allowing their 1st party developer to port another Indie to the PS4! ???? With MS buying Nokia, expect a lot more of this in future! ????

I still remember the first time I played AoE, on my 486. It was incredibly slow, and totally amazing. I looked on in awe as my hunter gatherer town with its denizens would develop into an imperial age city with temples and vast farmlands.

Then came AoE2 with its awesome graphics and huge trees and buildings. Your units actually looked to scale next to the buildings they came out of. In all respects it improved on the original.

Then came AoE3 with its complete graphics overhaul. The gameplay seemed to take more of the backseat compared to 1&2 but damn, the game looked amazing. The frontier levels I thought were pretty amazing.

Then microsoft kicked me in the balls, and I despaired.

Then Darryn gave me a glimmer of hope, and 5 seconds later kicked me in the balls.

Didn’t expect anything else but a freemium game when I saw the announcement. Sadly this the way all once-great franchises are headed. First Dungeon Keeper, now AOE, etc.
