No Limits

…But it’s for mobile devices only. Heyoh!

The next Need For Speed game will be racing onto your devices in 2015 under the title of Need For Speed: No Limits. It’s being developed by Real Racing 3 studio Firemonkeys, for Android and Apple devices. If you remember Real Racing 3, you might remember the very worst example of freemium ever made, as that game was riddled with micro-transactions for every possible action that was available. In other words, it perfectly translated the crippling cost of actually owning a car, into a digital medium.

Here’s the first look at the game, with rally superstar Ken Block:

“We’ve built No Limits from the ground up to deliver the insanely-fast driving and incredible graphics that fans have come to expect from Need for Speed – all in the palm of your hand,” executive producer Robert Huebner wrote in a new EA blog post.

The team at Firemonkeys has also been bringing Need for Speed to mobile gamers for years, and it’s an honor and a privilege to once again get behind the wheel of this incredible franchise and redefine street racing on mobile.

It hasn’t been a memorable year for the Need For Speed franchise. 2014 is the first year in a very long time that a NFS game has not been present, with most consumers not exactly crying themselves to sleep over this omission. Still, I’d like to see a proper Need For Speed game announced soon. Hopefully, 2015 will herald that Need For Speed: Underground reboot that fans have been clamouring for.

Given EA’s pioneering work with Dungeon Keeper mobile this seems like a partnership made in the deepest pits of hell.

i dont think even EA would do that.
they do microtransactions for car packs in most wanted and rivals, but thats about it.
      even forza did that.

Quite ok with no NFS on consoles for a while – gives them time to think about what they’ve done! 😉 Honestly feel the last few titles have simply been terrible… I just didn’t enjoy them AT ALL! Last decent titles were the Shift series, and they were based on the track, instead of the streets.

Forza Horizon is what NFS should be – so they’ve lost their ‘niche’ market.

Bring back Underground!! All the fans are crying for it to be brought back!!

Shift 2 was a nice game. Still play it sometimes. Porsche 2000/unleashed is still my favourite though.

NFS stopped trying to compete with forza years ago.
for all everyones complaining, its not a racing sim and doesnt pretend to be.
its just fast cars, an open world, unrealistic speed and scenarios and fun. its a shift in focus to another genre.
i think all the hate is just a response to people expecting it to be something its not.

most wanted was mediocre, sure, but rivals was fun.
Grid autosport wasnt bad, but was a bit too serious.
Forza is in a league of its own though, il agree with you on that one. with a solid balance between a racing sim and fun. its seriously making me consider the xbone.

Totally agree wrt competing with Forza. And I’m a BIG sim fan, and of the racing genre in general. But, more than that and for me personally, NFS lost the 1 thing that made it good – its fun factor. Excluding NFS Shift (different type of racer that it was), the last NFS game I had fun with was NFS The Run. And that was a somewhat mediocre game. But it had that fun factor. Before then? It would be NFS Carbon. The most recent string (Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted and Rivals) just lack that fun factor – for me personally.

I played Underground again recently on my laptop, and it just showed me how far they’ve strayed… It was such a great, fun game (still is!). Me thinks that’s why they’re taking a break this year (and maybe next) – to re-evaluate. And that genuinely makes me sad coz, once upon a time, NFS was the go-to franchise for some fun racing that didn’t take itself too seriously each year.

I wonder who’s leading the rehashes so far. Need for Speed or Assasins Creed?

    underground yes please.
i wanna tune and upgrade a skyline to wrek ferraris and lambos again, it was the main selling point of the old NFS games for me.
the stock upgrades that you get for all the cars nowadays dont cut it.
awesome soundtrack aswell please, the EDM in the latest games has been a bit too much like cafe music, i wanna feel like a G rolling through the hood.

really ./care about a mobile NFS though.

If they even announce a Need for speed Underground 3 or reboot all we will get is a distant memory of those great games. Why? Cause they will implement all the stuff of current need for speed games and it will just end up playing exactly like the hot pursuit series.
