These are the songs you’ll be kicking a ball to in FIFA 16

Video game sound tracks seem like they’re increasingly made to make me feel old. It’s not that they’re filled with music I’m unable to appreciate (ok, they totally are), but that with every single release of a new game soundtrack, I find myself recognising the names of fewer and fewer bands within them. That’s exactly the case with the newly revealed, full FIFA 16 soundtrack .

For a little context, the last song I really, really remember from a FIFA game at all was Blur’s Song 2 and the ubiquitous choruses of “woo hoo!” that made that song inescapable in 1998, and not just from within FIFA. Here’s the list of songs that’ll be in the imminent FIFA 16 – and excuse me for not knowing a single one of them.

  • All Tvvins – Darkest Ocean
  • April Towers – A Little Bit Of Fear
  • Atlas Genius – Stockholm
  • Aurora – Conqueror
  • Baiana System – Playsom
  • Baio – Sister of Pearl
  • BANNERS – Shine a Light
  • Bastille – Hangin’
  • Beck – Dreams
  • Bomba Estereo – Soy Yo
  • BORNS – Fool
  • Coasts – Tonight
  • Disclosure – Omen feat. Sam Smith
  • Durante – Slow Burn feat. Chuck Ellis
  • Everything Everything – Distant Past
  • Foals – Mountain at my Gates
  • Gin Wigmore – New Rush
  • Icona Pop – Emergency
  • Jax Jones – Yeah yeah yeah
  • John Newman – Tiring Game feat. Charlie Wilson
  • Kaleo – Way Down We Go
  • Kygo – ID
  • Louis Child – It’s Strange feat. K. Flay
  • Miami Horror – All It Ever Was
  • No Wyld – Let Me Know
  • Nothing But Thieves – Trip Switch
  • Of Monsters And Men – Crystals
  • Parade of Lights – Feeling Electric
  • RAC – Back of the Car feat. Nate Henricks
  • Raury – Crystal Express
  • Seinabo Say – Pretend
  • Skylar Grey feat. X Ambassadors – Cannonball
  • Slaptop – Walls
  • Speelburg – Lay it Right
  • Swim Deep – One Great Song And I Could Change The World
  • The Royal Concept – Smiles
  • The Very Best – Make a King feat. Jutty Taylor
  • Tiggs Da Author – Run
  • Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Can’t Keep Checking My Phone
  • X-Wife – Movin’ Up
  • Years & Years – Gold (FIFA Edit)
  • Zibra – Goodbye Mondays

“FIFA has traditionally been gaming’s foremost international showcase for new artists of every genre,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing at EA, “and with FIFA 16, we’ve once again created a soundtrack that will enable millions of fans worldwide to discover new music they might have never heard otherwise. Artists like Kygo and Aurora from Norway, X-Wife from Portugal, Bomba Estereo from Colombia, The Very Best from Malawi and the UK, Baiana System from Brazil and Raury from America do more than just enhance a great game. FIFA 16 represents globalized music as its very best.”

Not. One.

You can give it a listen using Spotify, a fantastic music streaming service that, like many other similar services, just isn’t available here unless you use sneaky geofencing workarounds.

But watching just one of those movies will take 78 hours longer than listening to those what I assume are songs. Decisions, decisions.

Why do you sometimes have the band first and sometimes the track name. It makes me even more confused. Also why the hell am I here on a Saturday evening. Fuck I should get a hobby or something.
