Thief returns to the shadows in 2014

Got your nose

Garrett, it’s been a long time buddy. Gaming has been missing that little spark of stealth lately, with only a few games released in these wilderness years of explosions and bullets carrying that spiritual dagger behind its back. Thief has a release date at long last, plus a shiny new trailer to boot.

thief (1)thief (2)thief (3)thief (4)thief (5)

Thief will be launching on the 28th of February 2014 in European territories (That’s us!) and on 25 February in North America. The game will be out on PC, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on those days, and will see master thief Garrett embroiled in a conflict between the forces of Baron Northcrest and oppressed people’s champion Orion.

Here’s that new trailer that I mentioned.

That’s some impressive CGI, I’ll admit. But I’m not going to be convinced until I see some proper gameplay.

Looks very cool. But purely CGI trailers are total cop-out…

I bet it didn’t cost $100 000 000 to make and it will still be AWESOME.

Long overdue. Thief was one of the games from the PC golden era (mid to late 90’s) that really delivered an amazing experience.

All the comments are positive so far. You guys (and girls) did read that there isn’t a jump button, and that jumping will now be a context sensitive action? This design choice alone makes me wonder exactly how much choice and freedom they took away from the player. I’m extremely skeptical about the new Thief.
