The first Overwatch animated short, “Recall” showed a brief skirmish between Winston and Reaper. The second, “Alive”, was a little more action packed, and showed the speedster, Tracer, going head to head with the deadly assassin, Widowmaker.
Now, finally, we can witness the bout that every Overwatch fan has been waiting for – the battle between the Shimada brothers, Hanzo and Genji. Their own animated short, “Dragons” is now out!
Or at least, it will be by the time you read this. I’m writing this in advance so that when the third Overwatch animated short debuts, I can watch it immediately and without delay!
So, why the hype? Why am I so excited for this particular fight? Well, you might remember from my last post that the last time Hanzo and Genji saw each other, one of them nearly died.
Spoiler alert: it was Genji. Believing he had killed his brother, Hanzo abandoned the Shimada clan, and left to travel the world in hope of restoring his honour. Genji meanwhile, was rescued by Overwatch, and subsequently turned into the kickass cybernetic ninja we now know him as today. As you’d expect, his not too happy with his bro following all that “left for dead” business, so he’s got a bone to pick.
Which brings us back “Dragons”, which shows that particular sibling battle in action. Ok, enough talk, let’s watch!
Discover the story behind one of Overwatch’s biggest rivalries in our third animated short: Dragons. “Dragons” explores the history of conflict between the scions of the Shimada clan: Hanzo and Genji. In this episode, we follow Hanzo as he returns to the siblings’ family home in Hanamura once again to seek redemption… only this time, he finds himself confronted by the ghosts of the past.
Oh my gosh, how epic was that? No seriously, was it cool? I can’t tell, because I haven’t seen the short yet myself. I’m writing this from the past, remember?

Blizzard should really think about doing Animated movies. I would watch two hours of this and the other stories they have released so far for Overwatch.

Been saying that for years. Their cinematic dept is on par with Pixar in terms of animation and waayyyyy better than anything else in terms of story.
