This blind man plays games better than you do

Abeblind Terry Garrett is a 23-year old mechanical engineering student. He loves himself some Oddworld, and can play through near-perfect runs of Abe’s Abe’s Oddysee and its sequel, Abe’s Exoddus. While that in itself is impressive, it’s the least impressive thing about this whole story. Terry, you see, is completely blind – and has been since he was 10 years old.

He manages this largely because of the super hearing he developed as a result of his sight loss. Coupled with a few tips from his sighted brother and a trial-and-error technique, Terry is able to navigate both 2D and 3D worlds, provided the game has sufficiently robust audio design.

There’s a video after the jump detailing how he manages this incredible, inspiring feat. I love the Oddworld games, but I have trouble beating them with all my senses. Amazing.
