Beyond Good and Evil 2 is coming. This makes me happy in my pants. The problem is that it isn’t coming any time soon.

According to Ubisoft’s Michel Ancel  they “are in an active creation stage and at this moment” and that the game was reconfirmed as headed to next-generation systems.

Here’s the first in-engine screenshot of the game courtesy of AGB (Apparently thiefed from  this tweet by ShiggyNeo)- giving us a glimpse of what next generation may look like. It’s the first we’ve seen of the actual game since some supposed gameplay footage surfaced in 2009, nearly a year after the game was announced. As you can see from the video, it certainly has a certain Mirror’s Edge flavour to it – even though it predates that game.

“We had this concept even before Mirror’s Edge launched. And we have a different approach to the first person perspective that Mirror’s Edge has. Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed are closer to what we have in mind with the control of the character in a third person perspective,”Ancel said.

As far as the game goes – I think this looks like it could be pretty amazing, but I’m not all that impressed by the visuals on a technical level  if that’s representative of next gen.

What do you think?
