This Is Why Exclusives Lose Out

Just yesterday, I wrote an article about how Fable 2 broke the one million copies sold mark in it’s first week on the shelves. As you all know, Fable 2 has a huge fanbase and is proving to be immensely successful. The smile on Lionhead’s faces can only go so far then they find out this next bit of news.

Fallout 3, which also has a huge fan base stemming from both the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series released last week on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Bethesda announced today that they have sold Approximately 4.7 Million copies worldwide over all platforms.

That’s nearly five times the amount of sales. The only reason I could see Lionhead keeping their smile was if Microsoft dished out a huge amount of money to them to keep it’s exclusivity. We all know that Microsoft published the game but Bungie proved that anything can happen in this industry.

  1. Great success! Now Bethesda need to get cracking on the Diablo universe, that would be sweet!

I believe the Fallout 3 figure is the Shipped to Retail figure whereas Fable 2 was VGChartz consumer sales projection. So a lot of the Fallout copies could still be sitting on shelves.

It also helps that Fallout is a better game than Fable.
