GASP

We’ll have a review for Dragon Ball Xenoverse out later this week, once I’ve invested a ridiculous amount of hours into every aspect of the game. If you can’t wait however, you will see other reviews pop up from other websites, but I sincerely doubt that those guys have a Cha-la-headchala ringtone like I do. I have pumped several hours into the game so far, so I might as well share some of that with you guys.

So the big question is, what’s it like so far? What I can say, is that I’m digging the combat. It’s not too far removed from the previous franchise game, Dragon Ball: Battle Of Z, but it does feel tighter overall. Challenging, but pretty damn solid and without any of the bloated controls that other Dragon Ball Z games such as Burst Limit and Ultimate Tenkaichi featured. If I had to sum the gameplay up quickly, I’d say that it’s Budokai Tenkaichi 3 meets the Dragon Ball Z Half-Life mod, Earth’s Special Forces.

The game is also mercifully set to the default English voice track, a dub that I just cannot stress enough over how superior it is to the original Japanese soundtrack. That, and I like not having my ears vomit blood, which happens to be a frequent side effect of listening to the Japanese voice-over cast. Anyway, here’s some gameplay footage that I put together of the game, showcasing a few fights, a mission and GIGANTIC GREAT APE VEGETA KISS THIS PLANET GOODBYE KAKAROT!

The game is out in the US of A from today. For us European territories, we’ll see it on shelves from Friday.

I want this game so bad… Dragon Ball Z is still real to me! Actually, of all the cartoons I’ve watched over the last few decades, DBZ speaks to me the most. I’d even go as far as to say that it’s been more influential on my psyche than Robotech, GI Joe and BraveStarr.

I don’t know if it’s just that I’m used to the abridged Voice actor now, but Vegeta sounds a little off o_O.
@Darryn_Bonthuys:disqus, Is it the OG Voice actor?

Yep! That’s Christopher Sabat as Vegeta, who also helped work on the vocals for the game with his studio.

If you watch the very first DBZ episodes, then the later ones you’ll notice that they changed the Veggie voice actor for one that sounds a little off… the current one also sounds a little off XD

vegetas entire concept changed drastically at one point in the early parts of dbz

mostly i put it down to the fact that the original dbz dub is like 20 years old or something, peoples technology changes, voices change etc, even for voice actors.

i get why they went with this free range thing, but i still dont like it.

if goku could ascend to SSJ3, surely they could find a way to push linear fighters EVEN FURTHER. find that power, deep inside, push hard to find it

its a pity gohan never really featured after he had his ability unlocked, would have loved to atleast see a sparring session between goku ssj3 and gohan unlocked. just to get a feel for it.

He was supposed to take over from Goku after the Cell saga. I think the problem was that people liked Goku way to much.

yeah, but they didnt even give gohan a chance.
after a break, the next saga comes in and is like “7 years later and gohans now a total bitch.”

but there was just no way to turn him into a likeable lead character.

meh, now i just want more new DBZ, new movie set to come out pretty soon atleast, following on from battle of the gods, so we may get a dub of it befor the years out.

            hoppefully.
