Three more years of Xbox 360

3Years

The next generation of consoles is very nearly upon us; in just a few months we’ll be playing the same games we’re playing now, just with shinier graphics, at a higher frame rate and resolution.  When Microsoft transitioned in to this generation of consoles from the original Xbox, they dropped support for the old console like Skrillex dropping the bass – and if you wanted to keep playing games you needed a new console. Not this time…

Microsoft has promised that they’ll support the positively ancient Xbox 360 for at least another three years.

"You’ve seen us over the years constantly be focused on profitability and improving year over year,"Xbox chief marketing boss Yusuf Mehdi said at the Citi Global Technology Conference (which you can watch here). "There are different points in the cycle of when you invest in new hardware.

"If you look at 360 that platform lasted for seven to eight years and it’s going to go for another three years. It’s incredibly profitable now in the tail.

“We’re going to continue to invest in Xbox 360, and the two devices can work in concert. So it’s not like the day we ship Xbox One your 360 won’t work. We’ll continue to support it.”

Mehdi also added that the console will see at least 100 more games – so you don’t really need to jump in to next gen until 2016. Of course, you’re going to want to.

You’d think the tinfoil hat wearers would realise that the hat itself is a sure sign that they’re hiding something & should therefore be subject to surveillance. 😉

Bush had a je ne sais quoi – a silent and hidden competency that no other president had. Hopefully one day, there’ll be another Bush in the White House, like Bubba Bush, or Ray Charles Bush, or even Shenaiqua Bush.

I hope they get some decent backwards compatibility going at some point for Xbox One owners. One of the nice things about PC is I can play a 15 year old game if I ever feel the urge.

Dude, have you seen the price of the 360 and PS3 in this weekends Game pamphlet? Prices are up 30-40%. I don’t know if Game is being opportunistic or are we being forced to rather look at the next-gen.

I note on takealot both are R300 marked down… Also note that the Playstation 4 has been given a rating of 4/5… It hasn’t been released yet… The stupid is strong with some eh? 🙂

There’s the GTAV bundle to look forward to on the PS3. Those Takealot prices look more inline with what we are used to. Think Game is pulling strings.

I did that. Well, I already had an Xbox, but it was an old Elite one, and with GTA coming I was terrified my Xbox would die on me (pure paranoid shit, because I gave my old one to a friend that kept playing PS2 games and he’s got 0 trouble with it).

So, after playing every damn Sony exclusive I wanted to (bought the PS3 for TLOU, even though I ended up playing a lot more), I sold that one and bought myself a new Xbox. Now it’s the time to catch up with any of both consoles. Most games are cheap as shit and I really think it’s worth it.

Plus, GTA and Dark Souls AND World of Tanks, which I already play on PC, but, hey, maybe there’s some kind of miracle coming and the XBox version won’t suck..

If the PS2 or the PSOne are an indicator, the PS3 will be around for a very long time after the PS4’s been released, as for the box 360… yeah.. I don’t know, I’ll only believe it when I see it – chances are Microsoft might just surprise me, but to be honest, I’m not holding my breath.
