It’s time to retaliate in this new trailer and screens for XCOM 2

XCOM2

If you’ve always wanted to experience a more tactical bend to hunting the grey menace of a hostile alien race that is hellbent on enslaving humanity, then I’d highly recommend playing through The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. Once Geoff has finished beating me over the head with a cricket bat however, I’d probably also recommend playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

The Firaxis developed game was an absolutely superb return to form for the XCOM franchise back in 2012, with the Enemy Within expansion adding some delightful new ideas to the series. Good stuff, and something that fans wanted to see more of. And so they shall, as XCOM 2 is on the way. Footage and details of XCOM 2 have been kept under quadruple-secret security over the last couple of months, until today that is. Here’s the latest trailer, egging humanity on to retaliate.

And here’s plenty of new screenshots as well! Dig in, feast on them:

XCOM 2 will be available in the usual vanilla format, as well as a deluxe edition that includes the game soundtrack and the reinforcement pack which will add “a unique twist to the core game experience by adding new missions, aliens, weapons, more extreme soldier customizations and other items” according to 2K:

  • Anarchy’s Children: featuring rebellion-themed content with more dramatic soldier customizations (releasing spring 2016)
  • Alien Hunters: introducing new gameplay surrounding XCOM as an elite alien hunting unit tracking down “Ruler” aliens, along with a new mission, soldier customization options and more powerful weapons and armour (releasing summer 2016)
  • Shen’s Last Gift: offering a brand new soldier class with unique upgradeable weapons, armor and customization features, as well as an additional narrative-driven mission and map (releasing summer 2016)

That reinforcement pack can also be purchased separately, for twenty buuuuucksssssss, if you’re just interested in the normal edition of XCOM 2 when it launches.

  1. R769 for the complete edition on Steam as opposed to $75 – R1,150. I’d say we’ve won this one when it comes to our newly implemented regional pricing.

Oh I’m not buying it day one, only a CE with awesome physical goodies will get me to fork out money early. Anything else waits for after-release reviews and all DLC done.

Yes, it’s cool. Played through it twice in a row, first time vanilla, second time with the expansion.

Why would I play it again, it’s not going to be any different. I have other games to play, books to read, movies/TV to watch, and I’m not an insomniac so I actually can/like/need to sleep for more than 4 hours a night hehe.

I’ve done about 8 of them. Two EU, and 6 EW. I’ve mixed up the difficulty etc with each one

But the the influx of “zombie” games the past few years, I have started to hate anything that is zombie related when it comes to games.

Give me dragons and ninja’s!!! 😛

It’s not a zombie game! It’s an alien game. pffft.

You’ll probably be able to get it for R50 during the xmas sale.

It seems as if it is not impacted by our dishonourable prez, so I put R300 in.

Let’s see if I can make it with that

They probably wont change it as it fluctuates, but like now with a big spike I think they might adjust the price in due time.

Well it was already R14 something when they first set them, so I dunno how much it’ll really change.

Bethesda, but yes. I’ll get it eventually, after all the DLC is out, because I’m only going to play it once and I want to do it all in one go.

Ah. I was given to understand that, on these forums, we blame EA.

I wanted to be “in”, you see. I wanted to be a contender. I coulda been a contender.

            December 11, 2015 at 09:59

You can’t spell contender without EA. Well you can, but it’s their fault you can’t.

The pictures are very pretty. I still got bored with Xcom and Enemy Within, too much sameness in the maps, creep around, wait, auto fire, move, slowly, backup, same, same, same. Dunno. will this fix it for me?

It seems the problem is me, not the game, going by the general consensus. Do you players of the Xcom and Enemy Within not get bored with game after a while (short while, unable to finish the game, cannot get that far in from three play throughs)

Well I enjoyed the tactical combat, it did get a bit same-y after a while on certain maps, but the upgrading & stuff was fun too. The time-limited meld recovering mechanic in EW made a nice change too.

If that troubles you, download the free “The Long War” mod, totally mixes things up, and makes the game seriously difficult

That was the biggest criticism of the first game (although it didn’t bother me the end game aliens start mixing it up).

Apparently worked a lot on that aspect in the 2nd one and will have procedurally generated maps.
