When Valve said they had three announcements last week, everyone hoped number three would have a 3 in it. Yup, I know you were all waiting with bated breath for some news on Half Life 3. Well, now there just might be some hope.
Spotted by the good people of Neogaf, it would seem that Valve has filed a trademark for Half Life 3. Filed at the end of September, it falls under two categories:
Computer game software; Electronic game software; Downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; Video game software.
Provision of on-line entertainment; provision of computer and video games and computer and video game programs from a computer database or via the Internet.
So, does this mean Half Life 3 is coming? Well, people certainly don’t file trademarks for fun. However, we still have no official update or news, just that there’s a trademark. So, the project could still be several years away, or maybe it’s coming soon. At this point, it’s just too soon to tell. But I hope this gives you a glimmer of hope on a Wednesday.

Under European Trademark laws you have to prove that you will be using the trademark or your application gets rejected on the spot.That means that at the very very least the HL3 concept is more or less done. This however does not mean the actual game has been worked on for the last few years but I have high hopes.

Most (modern) Steam games can utilize gamepads. Haven’t tried the binding for older titles as I mostly play m/k but have to set up a controller for my son on occasion.

Not exactly as they are trying to “merge” both the console and pc market. The concept is to have steam OS as your pc OS of choice and Steam Machine as you gaming rig regardless of pc/console.

The trackpads instead of buttons would allow far better controll (specifically FPS movement and RTS usage) than the thumbsticks ever could (If done right and the sensors in the touchpads are responsive)

Been reading the specs and the touchpads are actually clickable so to use a function you actually need to make it go “click” otherwise it’s just the touch gestures that register (From what I understand anyway)

HL2’s basic MP was fun. Hearing screams of frustration from someone inexorably heading towards the 3 trip mines you planted at the end of the wind tunnel they jumped into never got old.

I agree. My wish is that they make a much less gimmicky game. HL1 did a lot of cool stuff that added to the experience. HL2 was feeling like a havok physics demo, building rafts so you can continue along the endless maze with the buggy. Apart from the opening and final level I found it extremely boring.
I remember playing with a cracked version and people said the AI did not work as I thought there was so little to shoot at. Then I got the game thinking it will be better but alas it was the same. 😛

I’ve played HL1 and 2 and the episodes after 2 and Black Mesa, but honestly, I don’t see the big fuss everyone is making about HL3. I mean really, why is everyone been going on about HL3 as if it will be the game that would make the century?
I liked the games yeah, but seriously, what is the big fuss about? O.o
