Torbjórn and his turrets are finally getting nerfed…on console

Torbjorn (2)

In many ways, Overwatch is about balance. About constantly countering an enemy side with an evolving strategy and never having to rely on just one single character to save the day. Too many Bastions? A tag team of Widowmaker and McCree should be able to make quick work of those salt-powered Omnics. Being harassed by an entrenched group of players who are moving the payload forward? Cycle in some justice from above or unleash a Reaper ultimate at the perfect time to swing the match your way.

And then there’s Torbjórn. Possibly the worst thing to come out of Sweden since that nation unleashed the impossibly catchy rhythm of Abba upon the world in the 1970s, Torbjórn is everyone’s biggest bane. Short enough to mess up your headshot rhythm and armed with capable weapons and skills, Torbjórn is a pint-sized package of pain and gears.

But it’s those turrets that make him such a pain in the ass. Torbjórn’s turrets are monsters to deal with, and even more so when you have to face an entire team of Swedish gnomes constantly repairing their death-dealers. There are of course numerous ways to deal with those turrets, but doing so takes a large chunk of fun out of any Overwatch experience.

Torbjorn (3)

Which is Torbjórn is getting a significant turret downgrade on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. “In an upcoming patch, we will reduce the damage done by Torbjörn’s turret by 30% on Xbox One and PS4. PC will remain unchanged,” Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan wrote on a Reddit thread that is pure Torbjórn hate.

ETA – Mid to late July depending on 1st party certification times.

Why only console players? Well that might be because we lack a certain amount of precision that PC players enjoy with a mouse and keyboard. Torbjórn’s turrets however, don’t have that handicap, and could probably give a fly extra anuses if that was a character in Overwatch. Nerfing Torbjórn should help make matches with a heavy defense flair a lot more balanced in the long run.

Also, f*** Torbjórn. Seriously.

I played all weekend on PS4, and while Torb was difficult, I never came across a team harassing with him… Junkrat though…. I nearly snapped my controller because of that character.

I imagine destroying the wheel on console must be a nightmare?

( on PC, that’s one ulti I don’t really care about – just shoot the wheel, and if you’re not in the vicinity of the wheel, find the rat )

You get lucky occasionally, but most times when you hear that if you dont have a character that takes advantage of elevation, you are dead.

Not really, no. Genji, Pharah, Hanzo, Widowmaker or McCree are all good counters when playing solo. In a team, D.Va or Reinhardt to block the damage while anyone else that can do damage takes it out. All of this except Reinhardt also works against Bastion

So two Reinhardts and any of the above should work better than the Springboks scrum did this weekend. I’ve said before I ‘ve played in a round with six Torbjorns, we lost some matches and we won some. All because the other group picked the right heroes

A smart Torb team will sub in a Bastion or 2 as soon as the mass Reinhardts show up ;D

When a bastion has 15k-20k damage done. It was because he was shooting Reinhardt shields the whole game 😛

            June 27, 2016 at 08:19

As he should be doing. A Reinhardt with no shield means his entire team is vulnerable for 10-15 seconds, and it only takes 3 seconds to blow it up

Even when I am playing Mercy I keep pumping bullets into that shield every second I get open.

Pumping bullets into anything as Mercy is so satisfying! First game last night, Defend on Hollywood, I pick Mercy, stand in front of enemy spawn and just unload a clip, not even aiming

            Eliminated (Enemy Name) 100

            😀

            but man, the stats!
youre giving the reinhart free stats man!
prepare yourself for salt when the reinhart cries about how they lost after he blocked so much damage.

Next they’ll want to nerf Roadhog because he heals too much damage, or how about Soldier 76 because the rockets are too accurate and is used for sniping or how about nerfing Bastion because he’s alt mode is too accurate and does too much damage? Torbjorn was fine as is, people just didn’t want to switch to heroes that counters him

I disagree, playing an fps with a controller is hard as is, now you throwing in something that has auto-aim and auto-fire with decent dmg. I can see why this needed to be changed.

Torb needed to be changed on console, hence why he was untouched on PC

But remember, dissallowing the same hero on the team is the real problem

I stick with my opinion that if you use the right hero your chances increase exponentially. Most turrets are placed to have a wide view of the battlefield which makes it easy for Widomaker to pick off. Putting turrets on a horizontally moving platform increases it’s effectiveness a bit too much on console which is one thing the should not allow…. maybe

Dont disagree with you, when someone mentioned Overwatch as having elements of MOBA’s, one of the actions you take with a team in a MOBA is to counter what is killing you.

I 100% agree with this. Ive also tried to play a fps title on a console and its infinity harder with 2 joysticks.

      I half agree with you.

Its not like there is only one counter to him, a reasonably balanced team should be able to handle it, a semi coordinated push or one exceptional play should get them off the point, and once the first points been pushed, it all gets alot easier.
Not to mention the 30m range limit of turrets that are countered by anything with decent range.

But then again, console controllers etc.

really this isnt justified. Hes one of my fav heroes. there are so many counters. why not nurf the arrow bending one shot kill hanzo.seriously a guy shot me in the leg and I died instantly. Man there goes another game ruining moment for me. Really enjoyed the Swedish dude now with a 30% drop and little to no other defensive mechanism hes useless.

They should have compensated and increased the dmg on his primary weapon. But alas, the salt has corroded his turret.
