To many 360's on the network?

It seems that the huge surge in Xbox 360 sales in the US is having some unexpected side effects. The paid for Xbox Live service over there is starting to fail.

According to a Microsoft support technician the servers are struggling to handle the weight of all these new users but the problem should be resolved by the end of the week.

This is yet another case where I just have to wonder how on earth they didn’t prepare for this blatantly obvious surge in users? Or did the 360 really sell way more than they expected?

It apparently got so bad at one point that they disabled the ability to create new Live accounts.

This problem doesn’t seem to affect us South Africans who are illegally piggy backing on the system. How about we get some local support so that we can also suffer like the American?

Uh… It’s not a real message there Scotty… I highly doubt Microsoft would call their clients “Sucka”‘s… well in public at least

Are people in SA really able to connect problem free?
I am having a hard time connecting, and when I do I can’t do anything live orientated. I see a couple of my friends are online, wonder if they having issues aswell.

@Riva, are you maybe using a US profile to connect?

I am connected through the UK servers and have no problems, I was playing last night and I saw most of my usual friends online and I managed to download a new demo (that i need to now try)

Oh and before someone else mentions it, I am aware of the bad spelling in the heading I just can’t chance it now else I risk broken links 🙁

There were definitely funnies this weekend, but I could connect, play and even dl stuff from marketplace, matchmaking was poked.

As much as foks can point fingers and laugh, it is unacceptible and I expect compensation from MS 😉

No, I am on a UK profile, works grand during the day, night time comes and I get connectivity issues. Most of the time it will just have those rotating dots inthe middle of my screen on the marketplace, live and game blade. It will then say I have X friends online and then bomb back to being signed out of live but still signed into my profile.
I took a look at our local http://www.xbox-360.co.za forums to see what is going on but no one seems to mention anything about it. Which I find odd because then I checked to official Xbox forums and it seems pretty much people from every country in the world is having the problem. USA, UK, Italy, Austrailia, New Zealand, you name it all seen to be having the same problem. Yet some people seem totaly unaffected. I read somewhere that it has to do with problems retrieving your Live ID. I Did all signup through my xbox, though I have heard that it can be done through a PC aswell. Maybe depending on which way you did it, it is stored on different servers, and the one I am on is the one with the problem.

Hmm, anyone thinking they’re a bit startled by their own success?

5 teabaggings say it’s a problem with their Active Directory services 😉

Well I’m also on a UK account and the dots thing only happened to me once, other than that Live seems fine. Some achievements aren’t unlocking immediately (PES08), I wonder if the Live problems have anything to do with that.
