The Division will be coming sometime this year, presumably in that busy October/November release window. While it’s being developed primarily by Massive Entertainment, there’s a new in-house collaboration to help bring the post-apocalyptic world of New York City to life.
According to the Ubi Blog, Ubisoft Annecy will be working with Massive on The Division. While they haven’t specified exactly how they’ll be dividing labor, this quote does give a hint.
“The team in Annecy is delighted to be collaborating with Massive, Red Storm and Reflections on Tom Clancy’s The Division,” Rebecka Coutaz, Studio Manager at Ubisoft Annecy, tells us. “We are bringing our previous experience in multiplayer online games and this project is allowing us to build our technical knowledge in other areas and become experts on this incredible brand. The collaboration with the other studios is going very smoothly, and we’re working together to ensure we meet and exceed the high expectations players have for this new title.”
So, online multiplayer elements? I think it’s safe to assume that Annecy will be working on that end of the project. Previously, Annecy has worked on Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow as well as the multiplayer aspects of Assassin’s Creed games. That’s not all, though – they were also responsible for the upgradable villa in Assassin’s Creed II and the Café Théâtre in AC: Unity. Perhaps they will be in charge of the upgradable bases in The Division, or maybe they will deal with multiplayer, but either way they’ve got the credentials to help Massive make The Division a better game.

I’d love to see what this game looks like when released… I’m sure it won’t have the same issues that Wart doge had, but it should be quite interesting…

I’m glad the new name was applied

When I break something, I ensure that there is no form of technical prowess, magic, glue or even the holy grail of fixing, Duct tape, that can resolve the issue, I am impressed at how robust Discus is though…

But isn’t that the job description for a developer? if your code doesn’t compile, it must be the compiler, nothing else makes sense….

Yeah I’m hyped for this game. Was so bleak when I heard it would be console exclusive but alas PC Master Race won the petition to get it o/

I am a little bit sceptic about this though…. The previous title that got hyped as much as this was wart doges…

Wart doges……. I sent Ubisoft a bag of dicks because of that game….. Did society a favor there.

I want so much for this to be a great game, & to be as good as it promises to be.
But chances are I’ll never know, because as long as it requires uPlay, I will very likely not be going anywhere near it, and I’m not the only one.
I wonder if anyone has looked into how many sales Ubisoft lose because people refuse to put up with that execrable piece of shit store of theirs, & would rather not buy their games than be forced to use it.

Or end up buying it on console.

As much as I’d like to get both the XBox One & a PS4, I really can’t justify getting them. My 360 & PS3 sit on my tv stand & gather dust, because I end up doing all my gaming on PC. So that’s a very good way of avoiding uPlay certainly, but not one that’s much good for me 😛

I fully agree, I have just found certain games more enjoyable on console.
Most notably AC and DA. Just a happy coincidence they’re the games from the publishers with crap clients.

I know someone that has now, after struggling with uPlay so much on day on purchases, taken the boycott piracy route, he has not purchased a single game from ubi since wart doge, I’ve only bought Far Cry 4 in the hopes of it also not being a heap of steaming excrement, but yeah, I hate uPlay, I’d still buy the title, but then afterwards bypass it using a crack, just to simplify the ease of use…

The last game I bought that required uPlay was FC3. And I got maybe 6 hours into that bafore going “Meh, whatever, NEXT!”, and have never looked at it since. I’ve contemplated buying the game & then going the cracked exe file route to actually play it, but given how bad their console to PC ports can be, I’m not sure I even want to risk it.
Put it this way, the reviews of the PC release of The Division are going to have to be something very special to tempt me into buying this.
