Last night during some role play,my girlfriend dressed up as Lara Croft. She reminded me more of a Fridge Raider though.

Bad news everyone. It looks like the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider, which had been noticeably quiet in recent months, has dropped from a late 2012 release, to an early 2013 debut instead.

Eidos has been hard at work on the fresh take of Lara Croft, with a stunning debut for it seen last year at E3, but they’ll be postponing the launch in order to put some extra polish on the title.

Which means that we’ll have to keep Geoff and his wrists away from the office silverware, as who knows what this news will do to him, shortly after hearing that Bioshock Infinite was also delayed, well into next year.

Developer Crystal Dynamics’ Darrell Gallagher released the following statement regarding the delay, on the official site:

A Message to the Tomb Raider Community

When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers.

The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.

We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve.

We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.

Well, at least it’s for a good reason, that the game is going to be late. I’m all for a title taking it’s time, when it knows that it will need that extra bit of polish in order to present the best product possible. It’s also the third high profile game to be delayed, shortly after news that Darksiders 2 and Bioshock Infinite, also needed some extra crafting time.
