Top 100 selling games of the last 12 months

Mario Next-Gen.biz has put together a list of the top selling games (US and EU) over the last 12 months which has some suprises nestled in it.

I am mostly interested in the top 10 which is made up of the following

10. Brain Age 2 for the Nintendo DS… This bizarre little game has sold 4 million copies over the last 12 months and is a huge money maker for Nintendo.

9. Super Mario Galaxy, Nintendo takes another of the spots with one of Mario’s best ever incarnations.. selling 4.1m

8. Ubisoft will be happy to Assassin’s Creed coming in at number 8 even before the PC version was released… AC sold 4.9m copies…

7. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Nintendo takes another spot and millions of gamers cry in the knowledge that this means the Pokemon are not going away anytime soon. 5m units

6. Need for Speed: ProStreet… EA will be happy, I really didn’t like this game though.. Obviously I am in the minority since it sold 5.4 million copies

5. Madden NFL, EA takes it’s second spot with the game I am dying to play. It does show us how strong the US buying power is though since this moved 5.7 million copies.

4. FIFA 2008: Three in a row from EA, 2008 is easily the best FIFA for a while and the sales have proven it by selling 5.7 million as well.

Now we get to the pointy end of the charts….. Coming in at number 3 is

3. Guitar Hero III… are you suprised? I am, this game is easily the most expensive (when you get the guitar as well) in the list and has raked in a whopping 7.5 million copies sold…. not bad for a silly little plastic guitar game…

2. Halo 3… with total sales of 8 million you have to respect the Halo juggernaut.

1. Call of Duty 4, So Activision has 3 titles in the top 3… beers all round at their offices. COD4 has shipped 8.3 million copies but it does have to be noted that COD4 was released on 4 platforms while Halo 3 was a pure 360 exclusive…

So that’s that… Expect to see sequels of every title in this list, even Halo.

    We’ve been playing Halo 3 split-screen with my girlfriend a lot lately, it’s awesome fun! Trying to organize a 4-way system link party for the coming long weekend… 😉

    Here’s a blog post suggestion: best co-op/split screen games. We tried GRAW2 and R6:V but neither comes close to Halo or GoW. Army of Two sounds a bit mediocre. What else is there that you can enjoy with a mate?

    Oh, and COD4 is *only* available on 3 platforms for now! 🙂

    [re=11203]kay[/re]: I found Army of Two to be a whole lot of fun. As for other games, well my wife isn’t fond of the whole FPS thing but we got completely addicted to N+

    I enjoyed Rainbow 6 and the sequel though…

    I don’t actually know of any others, apart from Dead or Alive which is another of my wife’s favourites

    @Lazy- You talking about Dead or Alive Extreme 2? 😉

    Smackdown vs. Raw, Gears and Kameo are also good co-op games.

    kay, played some AO2 split screen and it’s actually loads of fun.

    The only thing on this list that kinda surprising is Pokemon, I’d have thought that this fad would have died now. Clearly i was wrong.

    I would have thought Galaxy would have sold more units. COD 4 is massive, but hell how you have to admire the awesomeness of the Halo 3 marketing devision. 8 bar – one console, thats hectic.

    I think BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY is going to be the next NUMBER 1 in the next twelve months. Battlefield: Bad Company is going to blow away the competition in its class and leave great games like CoD4, HALO 3 limping… like a dog. ARMY OF TWO won’t even come close.

    Battlefield: Bad Company, I highly recommend this game If you are a fan of FPS games and if ya have the money,

    These are the kind of weapons you’ll find in BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY got it from this one site..

    ===========================================================
    [Assault Rifles]
    AEK971: Modern Russian assault rifle equipped with recoil damper that enables stable handling during fully automatic fire. After years of development, the AEK971 is now the standard assault rifle of the Russian army.

    AN94: High tech Russian rifle with an advanced firing mechanism that provides a very high rate of fire. Failed army trials, but still remain a favorite among many special forces in Russia.

    AUGBattle: proven Austrian assault rifle widely known for its high performance and durability. Bullpup layout allows for a shorter stock while maintaining barrel length. Its aesthetic design has also made it a common sight in many Hollywood block busters.

    F2000: Highly customizable Belgian assault rifle, with a wide number of modification options such as different scopes, grenade launcher attachments, computerized firing systems, etc. The weapon has an ambidextrous fire selector, ejection port and handle.

    M16: The classic American work horse, having seen action all over the world for many decades. Its accuracy and handling are a true legacy of old American rifle traditions.

    M416: The M416 is an upgraded version of the M4 and M16 assault rifles. With new firing mechanics, this modification solved many of the performance issues with the old weapon systems, and also proved to be a more cost effective solution than replacing the huge number of aging rifles in service.

    XM8: Experimental US weapon system based on the German G36 assault rifle. A highly accurate and dependable weapon with many “in the field” modification options. Despite its great performance, it never left the experimental phase.
    ===========================================================

    [Light Machineguns (Support Class)] [Submachine Guns (Specialist Class)]

    M60: Iconic America rifle, famous for its service in the Vietnam War. Designed in the late 1940s, it borrows heavily from German WW2 machinegun designs.

    QJU88; The type 88 light machinegun is of Chinese origin and entered service in the PLA at the beginning of the 21st century.

    ============================================================

    [Submachine Guns (Specialist Class)]
    9A91: Russian compact assault rifle chambered for special high caliber ammunition. The steep trajectory and short sight base make the rifle ineffective at long ranges, but up close it packs more stopping power than any other 9 millimeter.

    AKS74u: A shortened, modified version of the legendary AK-47. Popular among Russian special forces for its size, but suffering from limited range and accuracy. Despite this, it’s a very powerful and reliable rifle.

    PP2000: Ultra modern Russian submachinegun, first shown to the public in 2004. Used by Russian police and security forces and claimed to be superior to many foreign competitors.

    SCAR: The SCAR assault rifle family consists of a Heavy and a Light type, each available in several versions, with different barrel lengths and ammunition types. This Light model is used by SOCOM forces and was accepted by them as late as 2003.

    UMP: This German submachine gun was developed mainly for the American law enforcement market. Very light weight and highly customizable, the UMP is a cheaper, but still powerful, alternative to the MP5.

    UZI: Classic Israeli submachinegun. Has proven itself in countless countries during the last fifty years.

    XM8C: Compact version of the XM8 rifle. Very light weight and designed as a personal defense weapon.

    M24: Highly accurate sniper weapon system used by the US military and police forces. The M24 uses the heaviest type of ammunition for this weapon class, providing very long range firing.

    M95: A bolt action version of the M82A1 weapon, with shorter total length thanks to the bullpup configuration. The large calibre ammunition makes it a preferred sniper rifle for long range sniping as well as anti-material tasks.

    QBU88: Chinese marksman’s rifle designed in the late 1980s. It features iron sights but is usually equipped with a 4x scope. Used by the PLA and Chinese police forces.
    SV98An upgrade of a successful sporting rifle, this high precision sniper rifle was built intentionally for domestic Russian use, such as the Spetznaz forces, counter-terrorist forces and other law enforcement groups. The weapon features a detachable scope and a special plastic magazine.

    SVU: A bullpup version of the classic SVD design, this weapon is shorter and incorporates a suppressor. It can be used with its built-in iron sights, although the common setup features a scope. The SVU was designed with Russian law enforcement forces in mind.

    VSS: A lightweight, short and quiet sniper rifle using subsonic ammunition. It features a built-in sound suppressor, a wide array of scopes and can be easily broken into 3 parts to allow discrete transportation. Despite its size, it fires a heavy round which can penetrate a wide range of armour.
    ============================================================

    [Shotguns (Demolition Class) ]

    870MCS: Classic American shotgun, Modular Combat Shotgun version. As the name implies, it allows the user to configure the weapon into different setups.

    NS2000: SOUTH AFRICAN pump action shotgun featuring an unusual bullpup design for a shotgun. Another original solution is the magazine placement, above the barrel. Also, in contrast to most pump action rifles, the pump action is forward.

    Saiga12: Standard shotgun of the Russian Ground Forces. This weapon has semi-automatic fire, allowing multiple shells to be fired in rapid succession. Uses a mechanism originally designed for assault rifles.

    SPAS12: Legendary Italian combat shotgun with iconic folding stock. Manufacturing stopped in 2000.

    SPAS15: Modern semi-automatic shotgun, featuring a standard box magazine that allows for much faster reloading compared to standard tubular magazines, where shells need to be loaded one by one.

    T194: Russian 12 gauge pump-action shotgun. Not used by Russian armed forces, but successfully exported to international buyers.

    USAS12: Gas-operated, South Korean, combat shotgun capable of fully automatic 12 gauge fire. Bulky, heavy and powerful, this massive rifle is banned for civilian use in the US.

    GTA IV is going to obliterate that list. Not to mention that GT5 is in a pretty bad mood, too. Sales for that game have been solid. June 12th…it all changes.
