Turns out the Vita DOES support multiple accounts

A report earlier this week, saying the PlayStation Vita would be locked to just one account may have been incorrect. According to the Japanese Vita FAQ, you’d need to do a factory reset to connect a new account to the handheld.

Turns out that’s not exactly true.

While you will indeed be locked to a single account, that account isn’t tied to the console itself, but rather to the memory card.

“Your PSN ID is bonded to your memory card and your memory card is bonded to your Vita,” Sony’s Crystal MacKenzie told Wired.

As a result, all it takes to switch accounts is to swop out the rather pricy, proprietary memory cards. So there’s a solution for gamers who wish to download titles from other regions, as many PSN customers have become accustomed to doing, even if it is a pricy one. Gamers who wish to tie the same account to multiple accounts are welcome to do that too.

That said, the Japanese reports are true, and you wont be able to have multiple accounts running concurrently.

“If you wanted to change different PSN users but use the same memory card, you would need to go factory reset,” MacKenzie added, explaining away the confusion.

So there you go. You’ll still need to have a bit of excess cash to swop accounts, but at least you won’t have to buy a whole new Vita.
