Ubisoft are done with mature Wii U games

A typical hardcore gamer attitude to the WiiU

Poor Wii U. The console seemed so promising, but poor timing and lack of next generation processing means that it is all but falling away from existence. Watch Dogs will be coming to the console, albeit a few months after its release on others. It will also be the last mature game from Ubisoft that the Wii U will see.

Game Informer (via Eurogamer)  caught up with the company CEO Yves Guillemot and asked him about Ubisoft’s relationshop with Nintendo.

It’s very simple. What we see is that Nintendo customers don’t buy Assassin’s Creed. Last year, we sold in very small numbers

It’s sad really. Though I don’t own the Wii U console myself, I do feel the GamePad offers interesting and new ways to interact with games which aren’t ordinarily possible. Looks like that is not enough to sway gamers over, as they are skipping over to the next gen bandwagon.

Ubisoft are not abandoning the console however, they are just opting to stick with the more casual games, as that is what Wii U owners tend to buy more of.

What we see is that they are very interested in Just Dance… so what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they are interested in.

Strangely enough, Ubosoft kicked off the Wii U launch with Zombie U, something which I feel helped sell the console in the first place. It was a truly hardcore and mature game, something which you normally wouldn’t associate with Nintendo.

I loved my Wii, it’s easily one of the best consoles I have ever owned. Back then, it could never match the visuals of the PS3 or Xbox 360, but it still sold like hot cakes. I don’t blame Nintendo for thinking the Wii U could do the same this generation. At this rate though, it really looks like there is no hope for the console.

I think its a great Idea.. Market the Nintendo as a Kid Friendly Console with Kid Friendly Games like toss the puppy. Parents buy the console, kid does a bit of jumping about on a wii fit gets healthy.. and the whole VIDEO GAMES ARE BAD stigma goes away. and then when the little rugrat hits 16 get him a PS4 and he can shoot, kill, and dismember the masses like every other teenager.

I adore my Wii U to bits, honestly one of my favorite consoles I have ever owned. However I agree with Ubisoft here completely, the bulk of people who own a Wii U and care about titles like Assassins creed, Watch dogs etc… most likely own another console or a pc as well.

Anyone who owns purely a Wii U probably does not really care for those games and prefer things like The Legend Of Zelda, Mario and all it’s versions, Donkey Kong etc…

Nintendo’s biggest problem with the Wii U is lack of games and that’s their own fault, every single game that comes to Wii U that I play ends up being hours of gaming fun that I enjoy. Once it’s done though it’s two – three months until something else comes out worth while.

I think the biggest reason people don’t care about those games is because they try and sell the same game name but in reality a vastly inferior game at the same price. And then when people see right through them and don’t buy the games they act like it’s the consumer’s fault.

Yeah, but you CAN blame them for calling the sodding thing an almost identical name so that people thought it was an extra piece of Wii…

What what do they expect when majority of the promotion barely lets anyone know it is available on that system?

I honestly think they should have just canceled Watchdogs early on for the Wii U and given it AC: Rogue instead as it’s last “Mature Action” game. At least the people who bought ACIII and IV on Wii U can finish the American Trilogy for AC on it and i’m sure it would sell better than Watchdogs will seeing as we all know it is a pretty mediocre game, it’ll be several months late, and it’ll probably be at half the price on everything else by the time it comes out for full price on the Wii U.
