Good news everyone! That abysmal, always-on DRM that Ubisoft shoehorned into their PC titles as of last year has been removed from the upcoming PC release of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Initially, PC gamers were bracing themselves for being at the mercy of sporadic internet connections getting them booted from their single player game.
The Settlers 7 was the first Ubisoft title to subject legitimate gamers to arguably the worst form of PC DRM. Ubisoft’s DRM servers suffered a number of attacks that resulted in people being unable to log in to verify their game. RUSE was supposed to use the same DRM method, but that was removed as well. With the next big Ubisoft PC release also getting unshackled from always-on DRM, it looks as if Ubisoft has finally come to their senses.
The scrapping of this obtrusive DRM had been rumoured for the last few weeks. Its removal is now official, with Ubisoft representatives saying “the PC version of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, after an initial login, will be playable offline in single-player modeâ€.
PC gamers are in for a treat when Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood launches. The game is arguably the best in the series, and now with the addition of a once-off verification, you can all look forward to stabbing numerous Borgia guards in the face come 18 March.
